Gore's depressing WISDOM re: An Inconvenient Truth
Al Gore was elected President in 2000. He went through a very traumatic period and decided to not put America through a situation that might result in a Civil War. He has created an incredibly important film and his strategy focuses a spotlight on our Country, our Government, and our Culture.

Al Gore will, almost certainly, not run for President again in 2008.

Al Gore knows that he would be vilified, swiftboated, and his character assassinated like no other figure in American History. He knows that the Media would not help him but would be delivering most of the lying blows. He knows that for a slight majority of Americans he would be a laughingstock. He would make little headway focusing on Global Warming because the Media would trash his message like they distorted the fact that he helped create the Internet.

Al Gore believes that Global Warming is the worst threat to all life, now, on the planet.

Al Gore wants to make a difference and get the world to change.

Al Gore has come to the shocking conclusion that, even if he were President, he would fail in his quest to save the world. He understands that to be President would take a Herculean effort with all of the variables against him because of voter fraud, etc. He understands that, even if he were "allowed" to be President, he could not get the changes made that are necessary.

Al Gore knows that the ONLY WAY that the world can be saved is for a groundswell of public opinion to demand it from our Government, to demand it from Republicans as well as Democrats. They must demand it of whoever is President. The must demand it loudly and not let up. Al Gore understands that he can not evoke such a grassroots response working through our government or through the media. He must go it alone, so to speak, in the wilderness.

Al Gore has learned that our government is broken. He has learned that at this crucial time in human history the U.S.A. will not lead the world toward peace and safety. Just the opposite. That can only occur if the people take back the country from the bottom up.

Our only hope as a civilization, is that Al Gore can educate enough Americans to start fighting for change to actually start producing change. The news that Al Gore brings is that our form of Government in on life support. Our planet is also on life support. Unless the peoples of the world become aware of the problems we will all suffer as no generation has suffered.

God speed, Al Gore. Thank you for trying.

1. "He would be vilified, swiftboated, and character
assassinated." I absolutely agree. However, what I find even more depressing is that no matter who the Dem candidate is in 2008, that person will receive the same treatment - a constant onslaught and barrage of negative press designed to kill the candidacy. Unless the Dems start kicking serious ass, and fighting back with a vengeance, all we can expect is elections close enough to steal.

I hope Gore does decide to run. They've already thrown everything they had at him in 2000 and he still won the popular vote - and would have won the electoral vote if the counting hadn't been stopped. I think he's a great spokesperson for and champion of the global warming cause, but he has the best chance of actually effecting change from a position of power within the government - either as President or working with a Dem. administration. I don't see any other Dems strong enough, at present, to take on the repuke slander machine and win.

2. The movie seems to be having a powerful effect on those who watch it
A good friend who prefers to keep her head in the sand for the last 10 years is more energized than I've heard her in the last 15 years.
