Fox News Readies 'Daily Show' Ripoff Starring Laura Ingraham

http://www.pensitoreview.com/2006/06/23/fox-news-readies-daily-show-ripoff-starring-laura-ingraham/

TVNewser is reporting scuttlebutt that the Fox News Channel is prepping a satiric news show to compete with Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show, with Jon Stewart.” According to the TV news blog on the Media Bistro website, the host of the show is radio talk show host and professional Clinton-hater, Laura Ingraham:

An anonymous tipster says Ingraham’s pilot is known as “Watch This Right Now.” The tipster calls it “an absolutely terrible rip off of Daily Show” including a “music and video montage” and “mouth replacement of known news figures.” (Huh?) “They want to keep it a secret so they hired all freelance tech people,” the tipster adds. “The writers and producers should be embarassed to show this one to Roger.”

-snip-

Think about it: The most successful conservative comedian these days is, of course, Rush Limbaugh. But Limbaugh’s humor, such as it is, never makes even his most ardent fans laugh, it makes them smirk.

Good Luck, Fox. The talent is equal on both sides.

BTW doesn't O'Rielly (rerun) have the spot vs Jon Stewart?

Damn! Score one for our team.

they don't and hate just isn't funny.

This will be more like Lamebawl than TDS and we all know what happened to Lamebawl's show.

Ingraham has even less charm than Lamebawl, so this one's really going to stink.

They think TDS and Colbert are successes is because it makes fun of the right? Dennis Miller's show tried making fun of the left, and he ended up having to pay for audience members!

14. When neocons in Canada got ahold of a funny talk show host for
their network (funny as in Canadian funny ..in a local way) they had him insult the Liberal Prime Minister. Then they cancelled when ratings tanked.

Turns out.. neocons are not funny. Neither is anyone acting out of childishness. That isn't humour. That isn't even tolerable to listen to. It just tanks.

The whole point of humour with an adult audience is to push through to truths. Doubt Fox can do that.

34. Bullard. And yes he was funny. Not Jon Stewart funny. But it was a
treat to hear someone make fun of different regionalities of Canada and the like. After he gotten kidnapped to global..they made him play off of an actor in a funny Jean Chretien voice. That ended his show.

Sorry - but local humour is local. And worthwhile. Teaches us who we are. As any good humour does. When they went anti-Liberal with him.. he just became a vessle. And my point is.. neocons are not funny. Cause they are cold. Look at ANN COULTER. All she does is put people down. That isn't enligtening teaching adults about themselves and their world.. that is teaching people to be mean and hate.

Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 01:24 PM by higher class
just don't have creativity - even in coming up with an agenda. Going backwards is not creative. All their thefts of rights are only going backwards - a stripping away of what mostly Dems brought to the people which has been humane. Take away social secutrity, build prisons, disallow legal representation, - it's all just going backwards. They have come up with nothing creative.

If you don't have creativity, you don't can't have humor. Do they have any witty politicians? Are there comedians on the same level as Stewart?

Maybe they will sign Ann Coulter. She seems to think shs'e funny.

Glenn Beck, Dennis Miller... the list is long and extremely undistinguished. Meanwhile, there are lots of talented, insightful, and entertaining people who will *never* be given their own show- because their politics aren't as corporate friendly.

Any no-talent hack can have their own show, so long as they have the "right" ideology.

Ingraham is actually intelligent. unlike that cretin coulter, who is only looking for a quick buck.

The bright side is that most conservatives/republicans ARE cretins. so it won't resonate with them.

Ergo, Ingraham's show will die a quick death. I predict 3 months at most.

And we dont WANT an intelligent opposition to show it's colors.

39. Not sure I agree with you on Ingraham
I think she's a player like the rest. Very sour persona. Her "comedy" on her radio show is usually based on desperate, invented right-wing stereotypes of liberals. This being Fox, the humor is going to be right-leaning and considering the direction the country is going in with these clowns in charge, it'll be like doing a stand-up act on the Titanic.

A case in point. I heard when she interviewed coulter about her book. she SKEWERED her royally. mind you, it was a gentle skewer, well calculated to appeal to the sensible, while still appealing to the rightwing wingnuts. Now if that isn't smart, i don't know what is.

In this sense, you are right. appearing mildly righwing to appeal to the centrists.

meanwhile HERE we know what she really is BUT not being able to do much about it.

And that is the real threat.

She can't possibly do anything funnier than the billboards hawking her yak-show on KFI-AM in Los Angeles.

IIRC, one billboard had her lounging in a black leather outfit with an expression clearly meant to be sultry and sexy. But since she's a right-winger, she just looked constipated. And about as sexy as Barbara Bush would look in the same outfit.

One Ingraham problem: she wants to be Ann Coulter, but she's too stupid to even do mindless invective right.

INGRAHAM: I think it's a very small percentage of the people. But I think it is this angry core of the Democratic Party that's raising a lot of money and, frankly, has a pretty powerful presence on the Internet, the Daily Kos, The Nation web site. People like Eric Alterman, David Corn, Katrina Vanden Heuvel.

I mean, they -- to listen to them, Bill, you really think that they believe that if America kind of went away tomorrow, the world would be safe. Terrorism would pretty much end, and things would be better.

68. The Writing Is Key Here
Little credit is given the TDS writers who really make that show go. Stewart is very good himself, but he has a braintrust of some of the best comedy writer in the biz today. That's how the show makes it point and still make you laugh at the same time. Ya think Ingraham will have the same type of writers? She'll hire Hindrocket and Glenn Reynolds and other hate mongers and, as you say, the cancel countdown clock will start.

Wanna see how comedy writing can go bad? Just watch Saturday Night Live.

While a show like this will make it on Faux as it won't be dependent on ratings...it sure wouldn't stand the light of day on a real network or in syndication. Look at the "valiant" TV attempts by other hate mongers...Rushbo, Michael Savage, Dennis Miller.

I'd get a kick out of seeing how bad this thing is. Ingraham used to host a show on MessyNBC during the Clinton inquisition...Don Imus pushed for it and it was so horrendous that even Imus trashed it. I could use some good bad TV...put her next to the Ollie North Show and John Gibson.

63. conservatives get multiple chances to fail on TV
laura was canned for piss-poor ratings on msnbc 6 years ago. dennis miller has been fired 4 times.

but donahue doesn't explode in the ratings overnight and liberals are supposedly proven failures and not worth giving shows to.
