OKAY HERE'S WHERE WE SEPARATE THE GUTLESS FROM THE TRUE BLUES at DU!!!!!
LET'S MEET AT THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL, WHILE CONGRESS IS STILL IN SESSION AND MARCH RIGHT TO WHERE THE CROOKS MEET, CARRYING OUR SIGNS PROTESTING A GUTLESS DEMOCRATIC SENATE.

THAT'S RIGHT; I SAID PROTEST MY CHERISHED DEMOCRAT LEADERS!

Even FOX will cover that protest! BTW, SIGNS SUPPORTING FEINGOLD, KERRY, BOXER AND A FEW OTHER DEMOCRATS ARE OKAY BUT WE NEED PLENTY OF GOOD MESSAGES WITH BIG CHICKENS ON THEM FOR THE REST OF OUR PARTY! SINCE THEY CAN'T UNIFY, LET'S SET A BIG, GOOD EXAMPLE FOR THEM. IF WE FIX OUR PARTY NOW, THEY'LL WIN IN NOVEMBER! WRITE, "DIEBOLD THIS I DARE YOU!" MAKE MY DAMN DEMOCRATIC DAY!" ANY OTHER MESSAGES? I THOUGHT NOT. BTW, BE SURE AND HIDE THIS OP FAST TO SHOW WHAT DU IS REALLY MADE OF, FRIENDLY LURKERS! DON'T WORRY, THEY'LL SIT QUIETLY BY AND ALLOW YOU TO TAKE IT OUT OF THEIR TENDER DELICATE FACES REAL FAST!

17. If only more people...
.. would get up out of their comfort zones, i think this would be a great idea.

Kos and other bloggers have all said they are out of touch. So they need to be sent a message. And that message is we want them to step up, to fight and to also clean up their act. To be a party. We need them to be. Too many people feel alienated from them.

It will get better when we have a leader, a front runner for 08. But we cannot wait for that this time. It is NOT business as usual.

Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:13 AM by Jeffersons Ghost
Patriots Unified For Freedom - as in the magic dragon. It's a nice song for children and we're in it for future generations in America. Media would gobble it up... Instead of marching to oppose Democrats, we march to support only seven and only three can end a hunger strike, which we announce at the rally, for which we'll get proper permits. The hunger strike might last after the permits expire... Then some of us will continue it in jail, after they haul us off. I could stand to lose a few pounds and us 50ish disabled types fade fast. I think I'll buy a bunch of smokes and visit the VA Hospital tomorrow and see how many of my old 'Nam comrades want to go along on one last mission to defend freedom. I've got a big old car and I know guys in wheel-chairs with gigantic vans. We could also focus on bringing attention to net-neutrality. I bet even the trolls want the web to stay informational and affordable. Promote the effort as non-partisan at first but later we might ask Big John, Russ and a few others to unify and talk us into big lunch. Or better yet, wait until the Republicans buy us old run-down vets a lunch. Did you folks hear the swagger in the chimps voice today during the house hearing? You know right before our fine reps voted to give only the top 5,000 families in America a big loop-hole to totally dodge inheritence tax? I feel sure he's back on coke. We might also point that out... you know - just typical DU topics.

41. So, are you advocating protesting against Democrats which would be,...
,...a violation of the rules?

Why would you advocate media attention to the fallacies of Democrats rather than the corruption of the Republicans in charge?

I don't understand your undertaking, here. Please, explain, in rational terms, how this would be helpful to either ridding this country of the tyrants-in-charge or galvanizing folks towards an improved direction.

6. I must disagree with you on this.
I did not see our Democratic Leaders divided in the Senate over the past couple of days while I watched CSPAN. Yes, there were two different resolutions, but they both essentially point the same direction, and caused Republicans to cement their fate to Bush. We also had the first serious debate on Iraq in three years because of those resolutions and as far as the debate, Lieberman was the only dissenter.

The majority of the American public is in favor of a plan for withdrawal and Democrats can say they offered 2 different ones to Republican who chose to remain stagnant, supporting a failed policy. Republican actions today will hurt them in November.

I think our Dems did very well today.

I wonder if we could get donations to fund a trip? I'd be more than happy to set up a page on my website to take donations and get the word out. Of course, we would also need a name for our group. I'm thinking something like United Patriots Taking On an Undermining Senate ... UP TO US!

Organization would be a key to making this more successful... what's your thoughts?

I am not going to Washington to protest Democrats. That will not hurt Bush one iota and it won't help Democrats win.

Democrats seem fairly unified that a change of course is needed. They have made that pretty clear. There is nothing to be gained by going to DC to rant and rave at Democrats.

36. As annoyed as I am about some of the divisions in our party, (more)
I cannot support this idea and here's why.

BECAUSE THE MEDIA WILL COVER IT! If we are perceived as not wanting diversity within our own party, a willingness to allow for dissent and disagreement; what do we have to offer the red folk that are going to vote blue next time just to get the current, uptight, obedient, bushy reds out of office. I mean really, if the righties that have changed sides, (at least for now), get the concept that WE are causing such a ruckus against our own party, then why should they join it? The Democrats must be just as "bad" as the current Republicans, right? OR worse yet, they percieve the party as being "controlled and pushed" by extremely liberalm lefty folks who only accept ONE possible solution; rather than being willing to have open debate and minor discrepencies between the branches of government as is the case here with the opinions of the "two sides," as you say, being in relatively close agreement. So then the bush abandoners will want to re-think their choices and perhaps vote republican after all.

You might sway the polls regarding the current preferences for the parties in a really negative way. Lets get the house and senate in our control before we go protesting the decisions and opinions of our party representatives as a whole. I don't think our being annoyed at certain members selectively is a problem; but you're saying protest the whole group except a chosen few. Now's not the time for that if we want to keep the red to blue trend happening.

What pray tell, are they happy about?

The support of an Iraqi occupation?

The Diebolding of elections with hardly a mutter of objection?

The budget deficit?

No health care yet?

What is it they are so happy with that they are not willing to go to DC and get attention and air grievances? Seems everything must be just fine with them and the Dem leadership the way some have responded.

46. We apparently enjoy being abused and neglected.
For 6 years we've stood idly by while the majority of Dem's have catered to the Republicans.

Examples of previous statement:

1) Dem response to Republicans questioning their patriotism: "I'm not with the terrorists, I swear, I'm patriotic!! And to prove it, I'll vote just like you want me to. See!!!!"

2) Dem response to constant Republicans attacks on individual Dems and Democrats as a whole: *crickets*

3) Dem response to any Democrat who dares to confront the neocons (Durbin on Gitmo, for example, Dean on religion, for another example): *Runs to nearest camera* "That was completely out line and we demand you apologize"

Not to mention all the times the party hasn't stuck together to vote as a block on the issues that we find most important, such as ANWR.

Yeah. We would never want to call them out on doing the worst-job-as-opposition-party-ever.
That would cost us the election. So far our method of operation has allowed Republicans to control literally everything, but maybe THIS time it will work so let's not risk trying anything different. And besides, we don't want to hurt their feelings.

is this just a trial balloon or something that may really happen

I bet even the trolls want the web to stay informational and affordable. Promote the effort as non-partisan at first but later we might ask Big John, Russ and a few others to unify and talk us into big lunch. Or better yet, wait until the Republicans buy us old run-down vets a lunch. Did you folks hear the swagger in the chimps voice today during the house hearing? You know right before our fine reps voted to give only the top 5,000 families in America a big loop-hole to totally dodge inheritence tax? I feel sure he's back on coke. We might also point that out... you know - just typical DU topics.

50. Now that I'm not mad, we march in support not protest...
Patriots Unified For Freedom - as in the magic dragon. It's a nice song for children and we're in it for future generations in America. Media would gobble it up... Instead of marching to oppose Democrats, we march to support only seven and only the three who truely care about America can end our hunger strike, which we announce at the rally, not before. We'll get proper permits. 51. So Good Democrats who disagree with the 13 senators are "chickens?"
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:34 AM by Clarkie1
:eyes:

And here I was thinking they honestly disagreed on the best approach given that we are not the ones setting the policy.

Wow, I even disagree with the 13 senators, does that make me a chicken, too?

Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:43 AM by Clarkie1
Did it ever occur to you that, looking at it in the most logical way, it is these 13 who "failed to unify" (along with the 6 who did not vote for either amendment)? 39 senators were united, just not on your preference.

Exacerbating honest disagreements within the Democratic Party by putting a show on for FOX news and others to gawk at is the most inane idea I have ever heard.

Unless of course your goal is to make the Democratic Party look like a chicken with it's head cut off.

59. If we are protesting our own leaders
wouldn't you say that's a problem? Is everyone who disagrees with us worthy of protest? Aren't they allowed to support what some of their constituents are saying, even if we don't like it?

70. your VietNam vet status puts it in a different light
I suspect that had we not been attacked this time around, many more folks would have been on our side of the fence on the Iraq invasion - I still think that is the only reason that so many drank the koolaid ( citizens and pols alike) and refused to see what a big set-up it was. And now, as usual, they are surprised and angered, about 3 years too late. :(

62. "some" versus "most"
Representatives are allowed to support what most constituents are saying - "some" doesn't cut it. It's called democracy.

Didn't know that thread was so old and you had another one. I would have asked you to buy me a ticket there ;). I'm sorry about your SSDI checks being small, you could always join the military :sarcasm: -- things are going swimmingly for the troops! :grr: Which is why we (husband is military) are 'hiding out' here. (i.e. sign up to stay here for a number of years and avoid Iraq)

Yeah, the vote pissed me off. I knew neither would pass but I could always hope some republicans pulled their heads out of their asses.

69. Bad politics, and arguably
Not entirely logical. Sure the MSM played GOP spin that the Dem party was divided on Iraq. Actually, Dick Durbin said yesterday we had about 80% agreement on a non-timetable withdrawal. That is close to consensus. If we take the timetable off the table, we will get troops withdrawn more quickly, IMO. Kerry has already conceded 6 months on his timetable. I would think he'd give it up if a deal could be struck. I believe the non-timetable route is more likely to get troops out sooner, promote party consensus (taking away one GOP/MSM spin point) and being a stronger political position.

I appreciate your passion, but I disagree. Think about it, this proposal helps Bush. You might even get uninvited freepers who show up and help you out. Just like they donated money to Nader in 2000.
