How do Hispanic immigrants get here?

According to the Pew Hispanic Center, a good place to get stats about this issue, half of them enter legally through ports of entry. Since the illegal in "illegal immigrants" is about them crossing the border illegally, it seems to make the designation of "illegal immigrants" even more inaccurate. It makes stationing the National Guards at the state borders a PR move by the Bush administration, which will have little effect, just as building a wall will.

Cheaper than a coyote, really, and less of a hassle. Problem is, you need the cash up front, which many don't have. Once you're in, go on a few rides and melt into the society.

To be illegal, that implies intent, there are many raised here with no citizenship, yetno intent to violate any law; they only know the USA.

Also while crossing border "illegally" is in fact a crime, overstaying is a civil offense.
But many folks apparently don't see the difference.
