I see lots of posts on DU about "hauling Bush** Co to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes."
I'm all for this. It needs to happen. There are certainly actionable grounds.
Sounds great except for a Federal Law called the American Service Members Protection Act.
This law authorizes the president - a. AUTHORITY- The President is authorized to use all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any person described in subsection (b) who is being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court.
So folks, even if Bush** is ever (and I'm not holding my breath) tried for his crimes against humanity, a right wing prez can just send in the Marines and the Global Hawk drones to free them.
Isn't that nice? Isn't that all warm and fuzzy.
America holds itself above any and all accountability.
