Al Gore on Charlie Rose: "Look at the overall pattern."
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 05:57 AM by BullGooseLoony
"We are borrowing huge amounts of money from China to buy huge amounts of oil from the most unstable region on the planet, to bring it here and burn it in ways that destroy the habitability of the planet.

"This is a dysfunctional pattern, every component of which has to be changed, and can be changed only when we look at the overall pattern."

Gore is talking about so much more than just global warming. So much more. He's talking about our way of life, and economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Our country is dysfunctional. That's exactly it.

This man has vision.

8. You can get the video online at Google Video
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=tvshow%3ACharlie_...

Here's the link to the Google Video page for Charlie Rose with the show.

(They sell downloads of shows at 99 cents a pop.....Yesterday it was streaming the whole show for free, but I don't know if the free view is permanent or not. permanent......Whichever, it's definetly worth the 99 cents if necessary.)

6. What did he say about the maps?
That Dick Cheney was offering to divide up Iraq's oilfields even before 9/11?

What I heard was even the oil company execs were creeped out about that, they didn't want war with Iraq. But that didn't stop Cheney, nothing could.

11. And Charlie Rose...
...the man Gore was speaking to, previously ridiculed guests who said that the invasion of Iraq was "all about the oil".

4. He has a willingness to speak honestly. He says aloud what no one else is.
And, I would love to hear his vision.

I am of the belief that, "If we build it*, he may come."

*It = a citizenry willing to see the patterns, yearning for truth and a vision, already beginning the process of change, a media that does not make running for office toxic for all the best candidates and a pleasure for the worst. What else do we need to do team?

12. I agree with your "it" definition
I can't think of what to add to it besides electoral reform addressing electronic voting machines and disenfranchisement. Florida 2000 was just the beginning. After all, if we want a democracy we need to make sure to get out the voting public and make sure their votes are counted.

I'd also like to see instant run-off voting and publicly funded elections but these two can wait until we make sure that those who want to vote are allowed to cast their ballot. I also want to make sure those ballots are counted properly - especially when voter intent is clear.

13. You are spot on.
What else do we need to do team?

I would offer these specific ideas pursuant to your thought. Volunteer at AlGore.org. You can also contact me at steverobinson@sunflower.com and I get get you set up to do online work for the campaign. Also, I am working with a couple of my daughters to start some activity of young people in implementing the ten-point action program recommended by his movie. Anyway, that's my two cents.

As to the MSM, an accommodation may not be possible. Intimidation, through the blogs, boycotts, etc. may be effective. If an accommodation is possible, it might be because the charisma and popular acclaim of Gore will trump MSM criticism and alter the metanarratives prevailing in 2000.

15. Admiral - I'll have to check in with you about volunteering for
AlGore08 after the 2006 elections. I am working 24/7 (or something close) educating my community about election fraud and fighting back -- as best I can.

If we don't get Dems into Congress in 2006 - we'll have a very, very hard time getting a real Dem in 2008 - Gore or anyone else.

16. I understand.
I am also working for a local congressional candidate (Nancy Boyda, 2nd KS Dt) with a real chance to beat a right-wing moron.

Trying to walk and chew gum. ;-)

7. I've posted time and time again that the U.S. is a sickened nation.
The Republicans and the Right Wing reactionaries are a dysfunctional system, a cancer upon the U.S. and upon the world, killing it slowly.

9. We have exported the whole sick mess via multinationals
Thanks to these huge multinational corporations, it is a global system of dysfunction.

It cannot be sustained without endangering the entire planet, either through environmental disaster, resource wars or some other factors that will come from overpopulation and excess consumption by the rich nations.

I'm more impressed with Gore all the time.

10. Thanks for posting this....
I missed it. Gore does speak his mind. When he was on Larry King and was asked if Rumsfeld should "go" he unqualitatively said, "YES!" I think Gore will run for the presidency if a mandate develops.....how different the world would be today if he had been allowed to assume the position for which he was elected.

Maybe staying away from DC has done him some good.

20. that's the thing-- I did vote for him in 2000 but without enthusiasm...
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 07:21 PM by mike_c
...but I would support him enthusiastically now. Not only has he been forthright in his opposition to the war against Iraq-- never equivocating, never rubberizing his spine-- but he has also staked out a pro-environment position that is stronger than any politician I know of, by orders of magnitude. No one else is calling for America to face the music and change its dysfunctional lifestyle-- no one else has the courage. The things Gore has been saying since 2000 will follow him into any presidential race-- there is no way he could back away from them. We would finally get a president who puts environmental issues before business profits, and I don't think there is ANYONE else in the slate of possible candidates who can do this.

I was a reluctant Gore voter in 2000, but I would be an enthusiastic one in 2008.

Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 10:29 PM by Triana
...no ... WAS our President in 2000. We NEED(ed) someone with this kind of wisdom and vision to help solve this nation's problems. He was the best choice for the beginning of a new millenium.

What we ended up with instead - thanks to the usurping court and Repuke vote fraud and voter disenfranchisement - was the equivalent of Satan - the worst choice.
