I've said it many times, if there are people with such a massive persecution complex that they find the US business media to be "liberal," I should hope they never watch an edition of Democracy Now! or any type of foreign media (like Australia's International Dateline).
They may break their television sets.
The discussion in our media on the war is pathetic.
Let's take an extreme example but one that does get the point across.
Let us say we are all in Germany during the Holocaust. There is a panel discussion on the Holocaust with the "liberal" and "conservative" pundits on either side.
Mr. Conservative says: "The Holocaust is going fine and well, we're exterminating Jews at a fine rate. Mr. Eichmann is a great technocrat of mass murder, I don't care what those liberals say..."
Mr. Liberal responds: "That's ridiculous! The German people want to know that we have a timetable for this thing, and that we can lose less troops to the Jewish and partisan insurgents! They've made far too many errors in the operation of the Holocaust, and Mr. Eichmann should go now!"
Mr. Conservative shoots back: "Mr. Eichmann is a fine technocrat! I know the 'liberal media' has been shooting the Holocaust to pieces, saying it's taking too long and costing too much in lives and money, but if we listen to them the Jewish partisans will take their bombs from Poland and France and bring them to our doorsteps!"
Liberal responds, "Look, we hate the Jews just as much as you! But there's a right way to exterminate them and a wrong way, and this Holocaust has been run the wrong way from the very beginning. The Final Solution is an improper solution, and we have to find better ways to slaughter the undesirables!"
Now, of course the conservative Germans in this parody would be screaming at the television of a liberal media. But what would a truly liberal/left/progressive response be? Maybe that of a sane person.
True progressive: "Both of you are freaking nuts. The "Holocaust" or "Final Solution" or whatever you call it was based on blatant lies, it is crushing an entire people into the ground, and not for self-defense from the "Jewish Plague" but for greed, profit, and power of a small group of elite men who are distracting the populace with lies that you're using to provoke this murder!"
You could take the progressive's response and replace a few of the words and get a proper, truly liberal, peace-minded pundit expression on Iraq.
But that'd be heralded as "far left" or "loony left" by the rich anglo saxons with persecution complexes (O'Reilly, Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc).
It's the fascist mindset that narrows opinion down to two close positions -- with one of them being far left cut and running. And it's getting pretty pathetic.
