Countdown:President will/might pardon Libby right after the 06 election
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 07:30 PM by kpete
Lawrence O'Donnell on Countdown:
has also been hearing about a Libby Pardon

President will/might pardon Libby right after the 06 election

Libby defense fundraiser isn’t about the money. “It’s about the Republican establishment wrapping its arms around Libby to lay the groundwork for a pardon.”

“People around the case, particularly those who assumed that Rove wouldn’t be charged, have been talking about (the possibility of a pardon) for several weeks.”

O’Donnell’s take is that the WH views a trial as much more damaging than flak over the pardon, so it’s the way for them to go.

Note: that’s O’Donnell’s assessment, not from the WH.

1. This might happen but if it does, it might cause Rove
to be indicted. Some people thought Rove was not indicted because he agreed to testify against Libby and may have also ratted out Cheney. So if Libby is pardoned, and thus there's no need for Rove to testify against him, then Rove may be indicted. Libby could not take the 5th because he has been pardoned. However, if Libby's testimony is inconsistent with what he said before under oath, then Libby could be prosecuted for perjury committed in the Rove matter.
So, my guess is that * would pardon Libby if and only if the Plame investigation is completely done. I know * said something like that earlier but I don't think it's true.
