Gore Refuses to Back Lieberman
June 19, 2006
Gore Refuses to Back Lieberman
Interviewed on Bloomberg TV, Al Gore refused to endorse his former vice presidential running mate, Sen. Joe Lieberman (C-CT), in his re-election race.

Said Gore: "I am not involved. I typically do not get involved in Democratic primaries. Joe is my close friend, Joe and Hadassah are close to Tipper and me and it would be very difficult for me to ever oppose him. But I don't get involved in primaries typically. He's a great guy and he's right on a lot of other issues."

Of course, Gore did get involved in the 2004 Democratic presidential primaries and backed Howard Dean over Lieberman.

1. That's the best statement that Gore can give on this race
The Lamont-Lieberman primary is not a national one, like the 2004 Prez primary one was. It's for the people of CT to decide, although the nation is looking on this race with extreme interest.

2. translation
**He's a great guy and he's right on a lot of other issues."**

He's my friends but he's an f'ing idiot on some issues so don't vote for him.

(Personally, I was always VERY disappointed in Gore's choice of running mate.)

4. I still can't see it
Why Gore chose Joe the weasel for his running mate. I like weasels better than Joe.

7. I never heard of Lieberman before Al Gore picked him
Al picked him to defuse the anti-Clinton B/S, because Joe was critical of Clinton. However, I was not one of those who went home every night to suck up hours of Monicagate on the news shows every night back then. I had no idea who the Senator who looks like an opossum was.

9. "Al picked him to defuse the anti-Clinton B/S"
And what a mistake that was... Al should've run on the Clinton record (except for the blowjob part).

11. The Political Geniuses Needed Someone
To convince everyone that Gore's not a sleazy sexhound like Clintoon so they had Gore recruit the biggest Democratic Clinton finger-wagger they had at the time. Never mind Clinton's popularity and approval rating at the time, Gore must distance himself from Clintoon at all cost :eyes:

5. Gore has got to be looking back on his selection of Lieberman...
like a drunken one-night tryst, one where you wake up, look over in bed and say, "What the f..k did I do?"

13. Some people will say Gore lost because Liebermann was Jewish...
But I wonder if instead of Liebermann, Gore had picked the right ('er make that the "correct") choice for VP of Jewish faith, Russell Feingold, if we wouldn't have had to put up with this bum now in office, and perhaps might already have public financing for campaigns at the federal level now. Hard to tell, as Russell Feingold has been more of a visible hero in recent years than then. Perhaps if Gore runs in 2008 he'll pick the "correct" Jewish guy and dispel that notion as the reason he lost. Liebermann shows why now he wasn't the best choice then.

I don't mean this as a demeaning of Jewish faith. I mean it in all respect as Russell Feingold as the *best* of Washington right now, while Liebermann is one of the worst, and it is because of their characteristics as individuals, not because of their faith.

10. Do you blame him? Lieberman was one of the problems
Gore had especially after Lieberman's kissy assy debate with Cheney. Talk about a stab in the back.
