Claws Come Out On "The View"

Come back, Meredith! Now that the show's smoothest operator has ditched "The View," everything's descended into total and utter chaos, if this morning's edition was any indication.

Comedienne Sandra Bernhard appeared on the show and, amidst a discussion about Laura Bush, characterized the First Lady, with her typical acidity as "heavily medicated." Co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck, a vocally ardent Republican, took acute exception and tried to defend Mrs. Bush's work on childhood education, whereupon Bernhard called Hasselbeck "honey" – and then the sparks really flew.

It was all a bit too much for Joy Behar to bear, apparently.

I was afraid of that happening. I tuned into just a bit of it, but wasn't able to sit through the whole thing. Poor Star Jones-Reynolds. She looks lost.

3. Hahahahaha! Elizabeth was ready to spring, for sure. That's got to be the

funniest set-up, Sandra Bernhard vs. somebody like Elizabeth. So diametrically opposed in every way. Joy's reaction was a hoot.

20. She had a big grin on (nervous?) then got up from the sofa and made like

she was leaving the set. I might be projecting here, but I think Joy loved Sarah B's outrageousness and knew there were gonna be fireworks from Eliz. She came back, but there was so much crosstalk you couldn't make out what anyone was saying--except Eliz's raised voice repeating "...education! ...education! Laura Bush...education!" Little Miss Priss Republican Talking Points is so outclassed normally, but to see her interact with somebody who's not being tactful to her all the time--somebody who in fact doesn't give a shit about what anybody thinks, to boot, like Sara B--that was priceless to watch.

4. Love that Sandra Bernhard. If you invite her on, you'd better

be prepared for anything. "Honey" is her preamble phrase meaning "You little twit" in this context. It fits.

It was the closest he'd ever come to ripping 'em a new one, but he did it with grace and style.

NEW YORK, April 27 -- Rosie O'Donnell is making a surprise return to daytime television by taking over exiting Meredith Vieira's slot on the ABC talk show "The View."
