As painful as it is, it is always a good idea to listen to what they say from time to time, because, while you and others with hearts might not be listening to their message, there are those who are listening and don't go unchallenged. It is our duty to make sure filth like that doesn't pollute our society as a whole. As much as we might want to dismiss them as a "fringe," they do have sway, usually over young minds.

I spend my time trying to figure out what to do about the fact that my city is constantly, every day being barraged by the Phelps group. I have enough hate. You are right though. Man, we are in such a sad state as a species.

After leaving one state, where hate was the norm for many people, and coming to a place where diversity is more readily accepted, I feel a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. However, there is still much work to be done in all areas, and those in the hardest hit areas (the ones with the hatemongers), really have a long road. Rest assured though, there are those of us who will be there for you!

14. Oh I do know that

and I thank you every day. I love where I live, been here all my life and have always felt differently than most of the other people so I am used to it and quite frankly I love a challenge. Other than Fred our problems are mainly just stodgy thinking, at least in this particular city. We do have a growing fundamentalist problem but I think that people are getting a bit sick and tired of that as well because they have had their way and things are visably worse. Ahhhhh, Kansas.....It's a bigoted as you think! (that is a play on our new, very stupid slogan, "Kansas, As Big As You Think". See what I mean about stodgy thinking?)

i wonder if someone ever studied this phenomenon: why the unhinged crave elaborate uniforms. i can understand the "united front" aspect, or even the "individual dissolved into the collective," or even the "hide amongst the flock," but what's the obsession of shiny brass buttons, epaulets, bands, and various accoutrement. it'd be a pain in the ass to keep clean and keep all that... flair?... organized. i can't help but think back to Office Space where the "TGIF" manager stated one needs a minimum amount of "flair" on their uniform, but they are encouraged to add more...
