A Laugh From Freeper Land
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 02:44 PM by Ringo84
This is from Freeper Land. A post about the anniversary of the first RNC Convention:

To: since 1854

the Republican Party is the defender of the United States Constitution.

And now it seems neither party has a clue what the Constitution says.

The thread is here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1650012/posts

2. The Republican Party of 1854 isn't the Republican Party of today
It was populist in nature, pushing the Homestead Act. It was really pro education with Land Grant Colleges. It was anti-slavery. It was for the working man. And the men who met back then actually had principles and honor.

3. Yeah, that's the DEMOCRATIC Party nowadays!!!
The GOP is pro-slavery, 21st Century style, by keeping wages low. They don't give a shit about education, except when No Child Left Behind can funnel money to their cronies through testing and bullshit programs. And they don't give a damn about working people, the only ones who count are those living off their investments and contributing heavily to keep the rich richer.

9. I agree
the parties switched places. If, somehow, Lincoln were to come back, not only would he not recognize his party, he'd be booted out of it by the cowards who are running the show now. (Lincoln volunteered for the Black Hawk War; he never killed anyone, was never in a battle, but he had to bury corpses when his company came upon the remains of a skirmish, and he recounted later that he went hungry several times during the campaign. And let us not forget that he faced Confederate fire during Early's raid on Washington DC during the Civil War. Can you imagine what the chimp would do?)

5. Not only principles and honor
but vision. Even though Teddy Roosevelt was Bull Moose Party,
he had the vision to create national parks where all citizens
can enjoy pristine nature. The New Republicans are doing everything
they can to destroy the vision of our ancestors.

7. TR was a Republican during his presidency
Edited on Thu Jun-15-06 04:38 PM by Charlie Brown
The "Bull Moose" Party was not founded until 1912, when Roosevelt ran against Taft (his former Sec. of War), and Democrat Woodrow Wilson.

It's too bad there are no more Republicans like TR, Ike, and Rockefeller.

10. Thanks for the corrections Charlie & kskiska
My point was that what these creatures are today who
call themselves republicans have zero resemblance to
the actual reqpublicans of the past. They are completely
selfish and short sighted.

TR and Grant are probably creating perpetual motion
by spinning in their graves.

8. U.S. Grant, another Republican, created Yellowstone
the first National Park.

Yes, the parties have reversed, as evidenced by the Civil Rights movement.
