House Iraq War Debate Thread
We're getting a preview of what both sides are going to say in the one minute speechs. Repubs: Zarqawi, Zarqawi, Zarqawi. Dems: A war premised on lies against a country that didn't strike out against us.

1. kick- will the dems stand up to the
bullies on this? We'll find out whether house dems have the guts not only to speak out, but to vote either no or present.

2. I hope someone on the Democratic side
I hope someone on the Democratic side has the bad taste to note that this "debate" (as if something is going to be decided or changed) should have been held four years, thousands of lives, and billions of dollars ago.

6. I hope they all walk in with hands tied and taped mouths!
Walk up to the microphone and mumble from behind the tape, shooting arrows with their eyes at the other side of the aisle!

9. It would certainly make a point
but I want to know whether dems have the guts to really blast the war AND not vote for the resolution.

3. If Wimpy Girlie Men Like Murtha had their Way
The Great And Powerful Zarqawi would still be killing. Why Zarqawi killed 7 men with one blow, used his telekinetic powers to bring down 5 US Peace-Copters and personally raped 411,637 Christian Women. And this is what we would have today if * did not lead us into Victory!

Oh and Jack Murtha is a pussy.

:sarcasm:

8. McGovern saying this is not a "debate". Disresectful to the soldiers
and the House. I hope Walter Jones and Ron Paul give him three cheers (audibly). At least they joined him during the press conference yesterday.

Now that was a brilliant and scathing indictement of bush and the "radical idealogues". I particularly cheer his closing line about repudiating "the deadly pursuit of a desert mirage". And fuck Gingrey for his stupid bullshit repetition about dissent giving encouragement to our enemies.

political stunt for the "talk-a-thon". Seriously, they should come with their hands tied up, or little straw-man dolls with elephant badges they can knock down. Or even tombstones that read "Democracy R.I.P."

edit to add: No doubt, the media will make a day out of it. But at the very least, the media will be saying "Democrats called Republican majority resolution a political stunt..." (which it is).

27. McGovern just answered this by calling Cole on his BS
The fact is, an ammendment is not required to be submitted to the Rules Committee for it to be debated and voted on by the House.

This resolution before us is not what we requested, and not what we were told would be before us today.

Trying to blend together the Iraqi war and the war on Terror.

Mr. Speaker, these are two different and distinct wars.
