The art world gone mad! (bad?)
A gem from BBC News...

Empty plinth sidelines sculpture

An artist's sculpture has been rejected by the Royal Academy of Arts which has instead opted to display the wooden support it was put on.

David Hensel, 64, from East Grinstead, West Sussex, was told the laughing head would be part of the summer exhibition.

But at a preview he found that just a piece of wood intended to support the head was on display on the plinth.

The Academy said the judging panel assumed the two pieces were separate and decided the support was better.

1. The success and failure of art..
.. has always been its ability to embrace the seemingly absurd.

4. Just more snobby denigrating of anything reassembling figurative art
The mucky mucks hate anything reassembling the human form. More Bauhaus vomit. Let me guess, the board has some architects judging what is art.

8. Typical. I don't know how much this
sort of thing happens in the States, but it's become commonplace in Britain.

In 1999, British artist Tracey Emin was short-listed for the Turner Prize with My Bed, which presented a base supporting a mattress covered with dirty sheets, pillows, tights and a towel. On the floor next to the bed were an assortment of items (vodka bottles, slippers, underwear, cigarette packs, condoms and contraceptives).

Using that as a standard, some of my ex-boyfriends were unwitting artists.

The 2001 Turner Prize winner's entry centered around an empty gallery with a pair of flashing lights. I subsequently read that a janitor had mistakenly changed the light bulbs in the display, thinking they were defective. Maybe he should have won an additional prize for performance art.

9. The essential, raw and sublime investigation....
of humanity's folly is reflected in the bare base...the juror's are making a artistic statement.

FANTASTIC!
