2. and they might just pull it off, especially since the Democrats
cannot get together on the Iraq war

I suspect we will be there another 6 to 10 years before the people in this country realize what they have been fed

It took about that long for Viet Nma. That is if we don't go bankrupt first

6. exactly what we were talking about. No one is paying the price for the war
...well with a few exceptions...the families of the 2500 who died,or the 17000(PLUS) who have been injured....or the who -knows-how-many Iraqis who have suffered.

3. Yup.
They either had a campaign good to go when they got zarqawi or they had zarqawi and put him out for view as part of their current campaign. Otherwise one has to ascribe to Lead-hatted Coincidence Theories.

But Iraq is a hellhole and the 'war' is crap, it is an endless bloody occupation where we can only lose and they can only win. So they know this. So what is the goddamn plan?

18. I suspect this was their strategy whether they got zarqawi or not
they just accelerated it sooner when they got zarqawi

The Democrats won't do it, but they should pound into the debates that IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11, that the repukes LIED about it. That everything this administration has touched has turned to crap, and they are still lying to the American public

5. They are about to debate the war in the House...
and the Repubs are daring the Democrats to come out against it. That is the reason that they are ratcheting this thing up. It's all they've got. This is an all or nothing game here.

12. Something big changed
I think Iran is off the table for now. Bush made a deal with them in order to get Zarqawi. If you notice the retoric in the press over Iran has calmed way down in the last week.

20. I haven't been watching much TV so I'll take your word for it
Except for the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, I'm stuck working on this computer night and day.

I doubt if Iran is off the table, but I bet Russia and China recently told Bushler to cool his jets or else.

Killing Zarqawi is good for a week-long bump, maybe two weeks if they milk it, but they will need another distraction if Fitzgerald goes after Cheney... what did Rove tell Fitzgerald to get off the hook? ;)

24. Interesting observation...
I've been thinking all along that Zarqawi was a gift from someone (and I think he was already dead by the time the U.S. bombs got to him), but I never really put it together with Iran. Something to think about.

22. Well, they have to show some sort of success, even if it is fake,
in order to convince people that a war with Iran is feasible.

What are all those mega-bases being built in Iraq for? ... hmmm?

8. They were in deep dew before they killed Zarqawi.
The story of Marines committing atrocities was really going to take public opinion of the war and them to a new low. The visit yesterday and the debate today are all just a desperate attempt to prop up support for the war. Expect them to try and keep this going right up to the elections.

14. Of course they have to do this in an election year
It shouldn't surprise anyone, they realize how an unpopular war can sweep many of them out of office. It's nothing more than a stunt today.

26. Diversion. Trying to get the story refocused, it's all been bad on them.
They're desperate, and perception is reality. They need to get everyone talking about something other than how their party is falling apart. Stay tuned, more stunts to follow.
