If you support Keith Olbermann, time to show him some DU love now...
Lloyd Grove, gossip columnist for the NY Daily News who earlier this month was reported by Gawker to be dating Faux News' Laurie Dhue (save that tidbit and ponder it in your heart), has been on a campaign, along with his assistant, to do something, anything, to hurt Keith Olbermann...especially after KO named the two of them "Worst Persons in the World" for printing trash about him earlier this year.

Well, yesterday Grove tried to whip up a big heap o' trouble for Keith with the implication that two of KO's "fans" had send him email KO had written from his MSNBC address last September, supposedly insulting Rita Cosby by calling her "dumb" and that Rick Kaplan's Katrina benefit had turned into "the Kanye West Show." (As if those two assertions aren't true...but nevertheless.)

Matt Drudge--also one of KO's favorite "Worst Person" targets--implied that many more incriminating e-mails from KO would be published today by Grove, that KO was meeting with NBC execs yesterday, and that KO was in "big trouble."

Which brings us to today.

THIS is the "big trouble" (please don't laugh too loudly):

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/col/grove/

Keith Olbermann's vacation isn't going so well.

He was forced to apologize yesterday after more of his E-mails found their way to my inbox and exposed the host of MSNBC's "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" as insulting and frequently obscene in an acrimonious exchange with two viewers who taunted him.

Olbermann's antagonists, who asked not to be named, repeatedly claimed in their June 8 E-mails that dead Al Qaeda terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was Olbermann's "hero," prompting the television star to advise: "Hey, save the oxygen for somebody whose brain can use it. Kill yourself."

After I forwarded that and other E-mails to an MSNBC exec, Olbermann wrote: "I apologize to anyone who might take offense at my part of this correspondence. It goes without saying that I should not have replied to these abusive and hateful E-mails, but I wonder how many of us could receive literally hundreds of them questioning our patriotism, religion and ethnic origin, without succumbing to the natural wish to confront such hate?"

After reading this, I know you all have questions. Such as, maybe, exactly who those two taunters might have been.

But I also know you may want to tell Lloyd how you feel about his tactics. So when you do, remember to send it to:

l.grove@edit.nydailynews.com

When you do, you might want to correct his assertion that KO has apologized for anything he said against Bill O'Reilly or Ann Coulter. Of course, I imagine Keith will make that crystal clear when he gets back to work...and tells his side of the story.

But please keep your replies polite. I know you don't want to end up in the column he'd surely love to write as a sequel, "Krazy Keith's Fans Fall Not Far From His Insulting Tree."

As much as you might be tempted to do otherwise...keep it clean.

Oh, and you might also want to write feedback@msnbc.com, and tell them how much you enjoy Countdown and Keith, and why, and that you hope to see them on MSNBC for a long, long time to come.

Freeper pigs can't handle the truth or a truth-teller, so they spew the nastiest shit that they can pull out of their asses and then go crying to their daddy when they get called on it.

4. hmmm.....
After reading this, I know you all have questions. Such as, maybe, exactly who those two taunters might have been.

Well, let's think about it. One of them could be the assclown that runs Olbermann Watch. The other, well, just about anybody in the BushCo-Faux News think tank.

When there's only one program on all of cable news that can appeal to the 70% of Americans who can see the truth in this country, the hatchet job on that one program was inevitable.

25. Yeah! Isn't it easy to clone an email address for the 'from' info?
I get spam shit with the email addresses of many neighbors all the time. I get returned email supposedly sent from me, when I know it wasn't/

Can't be too hard to put somebody else's name and addy in the from portion. Spammers do it ALL THE DAMN TIME!

And Lord Falafelmort does have an axe to grind. KO is kicking his hiney by playing his words back for all to hear!

7. OK, I think Grove is like that guy from England who is the lead
judge on American idol. (You can tell that I don't watch that show.)

Anyway, I THINK Grove is a transplant writer from England. I just can't understand how someone who was brought to America to write gossipy trash can swing so much weight in disparaging the reputation of an American citizen. It makes me mad.

I don't think writing to Grove does any good, but I will anyway...

23. Grove's not a transplant from England, but from Washington
so you know he learned his poo-flinging in the Poo-Flinging Capital of the World. He was brought from Washington to New York to write gossipy trash about his fellow citizens. Nice, huh?

Edit: Link

-snip-
Abrams says his immediate aim is to build on the success of two of MSNBC's highest-rated shows, Chris Matthews' Hardball and Keith Olbermann's Countdown, "and use some of the irreverence, some of the excitement that comes from those shows and have that reflected throughout the network."

Abrams says he can't detail how that will manifest itself, but during daytime parts he hopes "to make it not as much of a pure newscast. We want to make it more vibrant."

More talk?

Not necessarily, he says. "But there is a way to do breaking news in a more exciting way."

Griffin says Hardball and Countdown work because "they know exactly what they are, they have a great sensibility, and they're different. We've talked about translating that success across the board."
-snip-

And a KOEBie K&R for you Berry :loveya:

18. That nitwit isn't going to rattle Keith
BillO has been after him for months and the crazier he gets, the funnier Keith finds it. If BillO's relentless insanity doesn't get to him, this mook doesn't stand much of a chance.

KO is one of those guys who knows who he is and is comfortable with it. He doesn't have an overinflated ego that is easily wounded by snipes like this one. In fact, he's positively gleeful when he reports things like this. If it hasn't blown over by the time he's back from vacation, he'll get some material out of it.

If this Grove guy has a problem with it then tell him to drop dead or maybe just go play in the highway.

28. Here is my email to Lloyd Grove
Hello Lloyd,

I just read your column regarding Keith Olberman. I was quite surprised and more than a little impressed to learn that he personally answers his own email. As far as the content, I think you might be overreacting a little. While on the air, I’d expect him to rise above what you describe as “taunts” and “abuse” as he does. I doubt, however, anyone would find much fault for giving it back in less public situations. We’ve all had to deal with jerks like that at one time or another and only wished we could have come up with a zinger like knowing your asshole from your elbow.

Consider also how low the level of public discourse has sunk. Tomorrow, the #1 NYT bestseller will be a book that contains much worse directed toward large swaths of people who’ve done nothing as personal to the author. The Vice President can tell a Senator on the floor of Congress to go fuck himself with little mention and more than a few supporters. Major newspapers and television shows find it a legitimate topic to devote headlines and significant column space to idle speculation and gossip of certain politicians’ marriages. I think you might be overestimating how many people would really find his words out of bounds had he said them publicly.

From what I observe, outrage is less a product of breaking social norms than it is a selective application of social norms for political opportunism.
