'Fossil' rock rat pictured alive

Images have been obtained of a live Laotian rock rat, the animal science now believes to be the sole survivor of an ancient group of rodents.

This is something I haven't quite "gotten" yet. If this one little guy is the last one, where the hell did HE come from? Did he mysteriously appear from nowhere? Was he a mutant born of a different rat species? Were his parents killed in a car accident? What? And if he's the last one, can he mate with another rat to keep his species alive?

5. They probably meant that the species was the last of that group

of rodents, not just this single little guy. In regard to his parents, I heard
they were hanging out at Swamp Rat's place, drinking margaritas.

Drinking margaritas is certainly better shared with friends like Swamp Rat than with animals like Rove. :)
