Why is South Park trashing hybrid cars?
I know it's a re-run, but I can't imagine why some people are so proud that they are running through the Earth's irreplaceable resources and it boggles the mind why you would make fun of people for making a personal decision to drive a car that gets better gas mileage. After all, what is their point if it isn't let people drive whatever they want to drive? I haven't noticed that hybrid owners are smug. Usually they are just excited that they are saving money on gas and possibly encouraging others to do the same. I once heard a caller on Rush Limbaugh proudly stating that he was showing those dirty liberals by driving a Hummer and joked (I hope) that he usually towed another Hummer behind him just to waste gas and piss off tree huggers even more. Someday we are going to look back and be pissed as hell at these people that were needlessly burning up our precious resources, and that day is not too far in the future.

18. ahh, don't feel that way
thinking about that episode made me smile all over again! Besides, realizing you should have watched the entire episode before jumping to conclusions about South Park is important and comendable. :toast:

So many posters on DU have a knee jerk reaction to South Park and post nonsense about it being pro Bush and pro Repuke. It's just not true. They skewer everybody, and owe nobody.

Sometimes I agree with their message. Sometimes I don't. But I always watch to the end before deciding.

Which trashed Al Gore from start to finish. Of course I thought that one was HILARIOUS, so I was OK with it. You know, I learned something tonight. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2. The moral of that episode was that hybrid cars are good, but that
you shouldn't be snobby about it.

6. LOL - I don't see how anyone could be snobby riding in a bubble.
Sorry - I oft complain about how ugly I find hybrids. I wish they'd make sportier-looking (and American branded) hybrids. I'm not a fan of little-bitty bubble looking cars or SUVs, which seems to be what most of them look like.

:hi:

14. Toyota, Honda, Lexus and Ford all make hybrids that look normal
Camrys, Civics, Accords, Highlanders, Lexus LXs and and Escapes are all now available as hybrids. Saturn hybrid SUV's are also coming.

16. My wife's Accord rocks...
...and the Civics are certainly pretty, IMO. The new Camry looks just like any other. Are you thinking of the Insight or Prius?

I won't try to defend my Prius, except to note that I used to think they were ugly. I wanted one, anyway, and I no longer recall what I found so unattractive. I think it's cool, like those futuristic cars in bad seventies sci-fi. I recently termed mine the "car of the future of the past."

The snobbiness is real, though. Some of us hybrid drivers really do feel a sense of superiority, and we richly deserve the skewering South Park gave us.

4. South Park seemingly trashes everything.
Yet somehow, kinda like "The Mind of Mencia" ... I sometimes can't help but giggle, i.e., albeit I feel it a guilty pleasure with no redeeming value.

But yes, it depends on your perspective. Some areas of comedy takes shots at every "damn" thing.

Such as the episode where Kyle sees "Passion of The Christ" and they trashed Mel Gibson.

very very funny, but gross.
I do watch South Park once in a while. It's definitely NOT to be taken seriousle -except when they bash Republicans... okay maybe not then either.

12. Because South Park is SATIRE - yep, that's it, it's SATIRE.
and they attack everyone and everything.

And you know what? That's okay.

South Park is not a "liberal" show nor a "conservative" show. It's COMEDY, done through SATIRE. One could ostensibly put the label "libertarian" on it, but I wouldn't do that at all - it's simply a topical comedy show that skewers everything and everyone. Even, *****gasp*****, those things that liberals hold dear.

21. My larger point
- and now I realize they weren't really trashing hybrids after watching the whole show - Is that too many people just think their big black truck or their super-sized SUV is so bad ass and anyone driving a small car is "gay" or "lame". And hybrid owners are a bunch of stupid hippies. I wouldn't set me off it was just a show, but it's a whole attitude that is out there and actually pretty widespread.

20. You got that right
Crusader Rabbit was more astute than the guys who do (I hesitate to say write or produce) South Park.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Trey and Parker are useless adolescent wankers. They have NO political identity except as far as it effects their bank accounts. They are not funny, they are not clever, they are opportunists.

17. I've seen a Hummer towing a Jeep several times........
The jeep is rigged out for rock crawling; extra gas tanks, roll bars, winches, and jacks all over it. I guess he doesn't want to scratch the Hummer.

My sister owns a Prius. Also a BMW, a Porsche, a Dodge Caravan and a Chevy pickup. This is the one type of offensive hybrid owner.

I live in a university town that probably has more hybrid cars per capita than any place in the U.S. The town is six miles long by four miles wide and flat. You can bike from any point in town to any other in 40 minutes. Most trips are about 20 minutes for the majority of the populace. What's wrong with this picture?

not take a stand on anything - except maybe the censorship of their show. Because they are always careful to bash both sides of everything - I will always be a fan.

See I can do South Park comedy too.

But then I don't really believe that. I just think South Park sucks. Man/boys trashing everybody for cash. So 1990's. Their movies suck too. End credits, fade to black. No one left to insult. Back to poo poo jokes.

And because Hybrids are no pancea. Politicians use the availablility of hybrids to downplay the need for federal intervention.

Bush does this often, as do most DLC/conservative democrats.

30. Because Parker and Stone are Libertarian Repukes.
Did you just now start watching the show? There's nothing they hate more than sincere concern for the poor or the environment.

Kenny's family's poverty was one of their running gags for ages.

HA HA. They only get to eat surplus cheese in their ragged clothes! Hilarious.

Have I mentioned that I hate Parker, Stone, and South Park?
