Frame: Flag Amendment people are scared of the Constitution
It's as simple as that.

Bill of Rights
Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Unless they want to rewrite the First Amendment and take what is the most cherished part of our democracy for political shortsighted buffoonery and election year jingoism, they need to take a basic civic lesson in American freedom.

1. I'd like just one reporter to ask about the epidemic of flag burning...
...that America has been experiencing to warrant an amendment to the constitution.

I sure as hell haven't noticed it, but I'd love to see the deer in the headlights look that would produce as lawmakers in favor of this try to explain why this is such a matter of national urgency.

2. What about all the flags made in China and elsewhere
with slave/child/sweatshop labor? isn't that a desecration of the flag?

is burning a flag made with slave labor more or less patriotic?

when the boy scouts burn flags on Flag Day (today) and they think anti-goverment thoughts can they be arrested?

3. the most ironic part:

I had to learn the rules of flying and handling a flag in the Boy Scouts, and it really burns me that these "love it or leave it" jingoistic meat-heads desecrate the flag every day! I see them fly it in bad weather, I see it in tatters, I see it touch the ground, and I see it on clothes, all of which are big no-nos.

Bastards. I emailed my congresscritters, although being in Cinci, I don't forsee any sudden attacks of intelligence happening from these guys...

EDIT:
and I forgot to add: I told them that an ammendment to ban flag burning is insulting on 2 levels. not only is it a slap in the face to the 1st ammendment, but it's such a BS non-issue distraction from what should be way more important issues. I said it in a slightly nicer way though.

4. I might support an Constitution Anti-Desecration Amendment
that would prohibit politicians from using pointless Amendments to the Constitution to make themselves look more "American" than their opponents.
