Well, the Irish don't trust us anymore...
US military-linked flights may face inspections in Shannon
Liam Reid and Conor Lally

The Government is to reconsider introducing inspections on US military-related flights landing in Shannon after a US marine being held prisoner was transported through the airport without the necessary permission being obtained from the Irish authorities.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern told journalists the Government was "now going to engage with the US embassy with a view to strengthening the verification procedures and if that entails inspection so be it. We have an open mind in relation to that."

The matter only came to light when cleaning staff boarded the plane at Shannon during a refuelling stop last Sunday as the aircraft was en route from Kuwait to the US.

1. The Irish people have never trusted the Bush regime
It's about time their government stopped pandering.

BTW, the Irish loved Bill Clinton because I was living in Dublin when he spoke and the streets were filled with cheering Irish, and they talked about it for a year after. To them, Clinton was Kennedy.

16. Me too. My two girls have Irish first names and my son's middle name
is Irish. My little fight to show their Irish ancestry in spite of the German last name. :)

8. Why would ANY Free Nation trust the Amerikan Empire at all?
We lie. We steal. We invade nations on the same kinds of lies the Nazis did.

We care nothing for our friends. We care less for our victims, if that's even possible.

No, Ireland and any other nation that still belongs to the Free World would be well advised to steer clear of dealing with Totalitarian States like Amerika is rapidly transitioning to.

10. We've been doing alot of that lately. Ask Canada.
Part of the new "Imperial Diplomacy" or as I like to call it a return to the Grand Chessboard of the 1890s.

But, shhhh, don't remind anyone that the Grand Chessboard led to the brutal World War I (and one could argue II, as well).

Because everyone who is playing seems to be having such a good time, don't cha' know. The Busheviks have revived The Great Game, and Comrade Putin, soulmate of our Emperor that he is, is having such a time! The rest will come around because they won't have any choice eventually.

It would be a shame to spoil all the fun.

13. A lot of people here suspect very strongly that those
flights are taking people off to be tortured, and they're not very happy about it to say the least.

There is a general election coming up and the opposition have been speaking out about this so we might see some traction here.

Seems like the plan is to insist on inspections of the flights to prove there are no torture victims on board.

15. Don't be silly. They haven't been tortured YET.
Wait till they get to where they're going.

Were there Germans who watched helpless as their nation was taken over?

We won't undo the damage in what's left of my life. I'd settle for revenge, though.

17. yes there were....
then, as now, those who could see what was happening felt themselves to be trapped, in a powerless minority.

It took Germany 2 generations plus to get over it.
