6. NOT Part Of Religious Right!
I happen to know the person who's organizing it, and she's as far from the Religious Right as you can get! The purpose of the rally is to show the RR that minority religions have rights, too. Sorry if that wasn't clear from the original post.

7. I object
Why is it that liberal faith groups make the blanket assumption the progressives with deep abiding faith would find common ground with the faith of progressives in other religions? That there is something that would bind Jewish and Hindu, Wiccan and Christian together?

The basis of faith is a of you have chosen is the One Truth and as importantly that there is no Pantheon of Deities. These activities, however well intended, I think by their nature relegate faith to a secondary status to the point where ecumenism is elevated to the point of being the goal.

Again I object.

While, I am called to be tolerant and respectful of those of other faiths and I certainly am I am not here to celebrate that diversity; I am here to worship God and be His instrument.

And when I make the to statement that I choose not to pray with Wiccans, why is it that I am viewed as an intolerant fundie.

Religious pluralism is fine in political culture, but demands for pluralism should not relegate matters of deeply held faith to the dustbin of history.

10. If You Object
Don't come to the rally. As for "common cause" between liberal Christians, Wiccans, Hindus, Muslims, etc., we're all worried about the impending theocracy of the Religious Right. Like Martin Niemoller said, "first they came for the Jews... when they came for me, there was no one left to speak up." Liberal Christians won't be the first wave, but they'll be in subsequent waves.

14. I think you avoid my point
It is not that I disagree with the focus..I simply disagree with the methods.

While I am perfectly content to be tolerant of other religions, it is against the tenets of my faith to pray with those who do not believe as I do. I mean them no offense, but it denigrates my faith and insults my God. It ought to denigrate their faith as well. The assumption that we can rise above our individual beliefs to call aupon our collective Gods to battle a common enemy is at once both profoundly arrogant and profoundly naive. Those that would dain to attempt such a feat are of a personal faith so shallow that they woud scarcely be heard in the heavenly realm: Which by the way is the very reason we pray. Prayer is not protest. Prayer is reverent supplication for God to move.

God does not take us seriously when we are more focused on political statement and symbolic protest then we are on the One we purportedly revere.

Whatever Higher Power you believe in ought to be insulted by such an idolotrous act. If you don't think that such a God does not care about such "trivial" things, I would suggest that you might as well be worshiping a door knob.

9. Where is Farragut Square Park?
I'm thinking about going, though I gather Washington DC is rather hectic during that holiday. Still, I would really love to see one large city's Fourth Of July celebration just once and the concert at the capitol.

11. Take Metro To Either Farragut North or Farragut West
Farragut Square is between I and K streets, Connecticut Ave, and 17th Street NW. Close to the White House and Lafayette Park. The Fourth of July is one of Metro's "one fare" days, so you can get back on and off as many times as you like. Although, it's a few blocks from the Washington Monument, so you can get some pretty good fireworks viewing if you're willing to walk down 17th street. It's not that bad of a walk.
