Ya see what happens when a forum like this gets to big?

The shrill noise coming from this giant forum is almost too much to bear... I sit here and marvel at how this once great venue for information has turned into a cesspool full of petty vindictiveness and oneupmanship.

I know that this is a business for Earl, Elad, and Skinner and God Bless them for their success with this forum--- but the bigger this joint gets, the harder it will be to control it---and it will eventually be a worthless pile of crap.

Right now--- it's pretty damn close.

People had focused on the dream of Rove's indictment only to see it snatched from them,
it was the same after the 2004 election. But Bleever had an "I believe" thread every
night that said that he believed in hope and that America would be a better place one
day. I used to have to log in to read the hope in that thread every day.

I believe that America will get through this and be a better place and that justice will
come to those who have done evil in our name. And that our country will remember the
rights of all its citizens regardless of their race, religion, or their sexual orientation.
I believe there will come a leader, who will love this country and wish to see it a whole
nation, indivisible with justice and mercy for all, y'all.

Getting that way. Used to be DU was a refuge from the shrill voices that undermined democratic unity. Now that DU has become somewhat of a force, the dis-unifiers are making DU into a weapon to be used against itself.

6. There are people here who thrive on disagreement.

Some others practice disputation, something I'm used to amongst family and in the cousins and nephews and other young-volk I know, but it is understood as in a sense of play, something that is lost here at DU in some threads.

You know, if you had a group of people at 2 or 3 such boards and you decided to play a role playing game, it might just work, if everyone played by the rules, which there wouldn't be much of a way of checking on them if they didn't. You could deal cards online to identify the various roles in anything like "Villagers and the Werewolves". The cards would have other boards:roles that you go to while the Narrator tells the village story on the starting board. Everybody participates seperately with others in their role and all-together in the village. Narrators are important and they can be nominated or rule based on the conditions in the group at any given time. It would be fun.

Some people fight because they are bored.

It's hard to get people to engage in conversation here.

I used to be hooked on DU. It's over now. I enjoy it, but stay away for days and longer sometimes. I write for a living.

People disagree, especially over things they give a deep damn about. If they forget their manners, as people sometimes do, they can say nasty things. Just like anywhere where people interact, virtually or otherwise.

Dissent does not equal treason. Isn't that what we've all been insisting for years? Disagreement does not equal heresy. Skepticism does not equal apostasy.

What you seem to be advocating here is something more like AutocraticUnderground. I won't forget my own manners here, yet I have to say that, while I find your frustration understandable, I find your comments extremely disappointing.
