Can we now, finally, ban ALL conspiracy theory/rumor threads from DU?
No more allowing "Jason Leopold reports...!" type garbage.

This site should be dedicated to helping the Democrats win in November. Advocating the basics of getting good candidates into office, bad ones out of office, good policy to help working families, sound national defense, wise foreign policy, strong US-based manufacturing, and so on.

Basics. Fundamentals. Not conspiracy theories and rumors to distract and to anger.

1. You can't be serious. If people want to believe crap like Leopold,
then fine.

Don't read the threads.

Banning "conspiracy theories" will severely limit discussion, because it will ban speculation of any kind.

"Bush's 'suprise visit' to Iraq is just a cheap distraction and an amatureish political ploy, I can't believe the news media is falling for it"

Isn't that a conspiracy theory?

3. define "conspiracy theory"
do you mean like Diebold-stolen election CTs?

do you mean discussion of lies and unrespoved discrepancies between the official story of 9-11 and what is known to have happened?

do you mean exposure of king george's WMD lies about Iraq? and now exposure of the same kinds of lies about Iran?

4. Right, and everything your government does is 100% on the level.
Questioning ANYthing is simply lunacy. The Bewshes and their minions are just not as bad as you're making them sound. NObody ever was as bad as they make them sound. You know what they say, if it's too bad to be true, it probably ain't.

6. I'm not sure what criteria you use-anyway, as the Pentagon announced
months ago, the Internet is inexplicably full of propaganda and psychological operations that were originally intended for foreign audiences.

Political websites, personal communications of various types are datamined and sometimes surveillance is included regardless of laws, rights and prohibitions-which was once ridiculed as conspiracy theory but has been acknowledged as fact.

Perception management and strategic influence are realities that also were once dismissed as ct.

So I'm not sure what you mean.

8. Well first off, who gets to decide what a "conspiracy theory" is?
And frankly, one of the Democratic ideals is the promotion of free speech. Why are you wanting to throw that away? Finally, many theories that are considered conspiratorial wind up being truth at some point or another. Take one of the bigger "conspiracy theories" of our time, the Kennedy assasination. For over a decade, those who didn't accept the far fetched Magic Bullet theory were labeled as kooks, crackposts and conspiracy theorists. Yet in 1979, no less an authority than the US Congress declared that Kennedy's assasination was the result of. . . a conspiracy.

Look, if you don't like these sorts of threads, fine, don't click on them, hell we have a hide thread option for you to use. But whatever you do, it isn't a good idea to try and limit what people want to talk about. For then you are betraying all of our rights to free speech. And that friend is not very Democratic at all.

11. Who died and made you administrator?
Sorry pal, but what you think of as conspiracy theory, others think of as a valid topic for discussion and research.

Tell you what though, there is a solution so that you don't have to bother your beautiful mind with what you deem conspiracy theories; it is called the "hide thread" button. I suggest that you use it and be your own little censor, and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

19. Ban them all mercilessly I say
for I am all knowing, omniscient

BHASHYA

Just as children are kept from knowing all about adult life until they have matured into understanding, so too is the soul's knowledge limited. We learn what we need to know, and we understand what we have experienced. Only this narrowing of our awareness, coupled with a sense of individualized ego, allows us to look upon the world and our part in it from a practical, human point of view. Pasha is the soul's triple bondage: maya, karma and anava. Without the world of maya, the soul could not evolve through experience. Karma is the law of cause and effect, action and reaction governing maya. Anava is the individuating veil of duality, source of ignorance and finitude. Maya is the classroom, karma the teacher, and anava the student's ignorance. The three bonds, or malas, are given by Lord Siva to help and protect us as we unfold. Yet, God Siva's all-knowingness may be experienced for brief periods by the meditator who turns within to his own essence. The Tirumantiram explains, "When the soul attains Self-knowledge, then it becomes one with Siva. The malas perish, birth's cycle ends and the lustrous light of wisdom dawns." Aum Namah Sivaya.

17. Thats what I always tell everyone who poo-pooh's conspiracy
When I hear the word "conspiracy", I think criminal conspiracy, as in, the actual crime set forth in laws we have on the books, which have been used innumerable times to capture criminals who are involved in a conspiracy.\

It usually shuts the doubters right up.

24. so, your saying you want your rules for DU?
one can always find something to be angry about--if your going to put some in a box, afraid to have their say (without personal attacks), then where does that leave DU? I mean, I can just peruse the Democratic party site where I don't need a flame retardant suit and not delve into quite the ideas or information I obtain from DU. DU, to me, is fine how it is, that's why I gravitated towards the site.

29. I agree, we should ban all conspiracy theories, such as
Global Warming. Michael Crichton thinks this is garbage. Michael Crichton! You know, really smart guy, wrote Jurassic Park? The only ones saying global warming is real are Al Gore, who clearly became unhinged after losing in 2000, and ultra-left environmentalists, who, by the way, are on the terrorist watch list.

Election Fraud. If it were real, the media would cover it, and not just Rolling Stone.

The Holocaust. Everyone knows it's just a story made up by the jews to justify the existence of israel.

The energy industry. There is almost no information about what cheney and his friends did, so there's no possible way to criticize what is going on. No proof? Back to some other forum. Don't even mention anything here!

Illegal wiretaps. A great many representatives of the government have asserted that this is limited in scope and certainly not domestic. If it were true, SOMEONE would have come out and talked about it.

Torture. Abu Ghraib is over, and you haven't seen any more in the news, have you? Have you been to Guantanamo bay? Then you can't say they're being tortured there. Extraordinary rendition? Why do you think it's called extraordinary!

Non-religion. Until you can prove that god is not real, you damn well better get in line and go to church.

GLBT. Being that way isn't a choice. I have a DSM here from a few years ago that spells it out plain as day. We don't let other crazy people, like conspiracy theorists, classify themselves as sane. Why should gays be any different?

And while we're removing everything we can't prove, absolutely no speculation of any kind will be allowed, on any topic. Do not attempt to figure out what a news story "means". Stories have writers for a reason - they put down what they mean in words. It doesn't get any clearer than that.

And no voting for democrats until you can prove that they'll do better in office than their republican counterpart.

2) Small, virtual web host account = $10.00 per month

3)Message Board Software = You can get it shareware, baby!

4) The ability to draw 90,000 members and hundreds of thousands of page visits per day = Pretty damned difficult

5) Freedom to post any thoughts, even conspiracy theories? = PRICELESS
