Truthout needs to get rid of Leopold. A stain on their credibility.
You can't deny every time you see a report "by Jason Leopold" you'll disregard the report and Truthout will lose credibility.

2. Jason's report hasn't been disproved by a report from Rove's lawyer
about an invisible letter.

What standards were followed in this report that trumps the reporting in Jason's?

3. Please. Open your eyes.
The Wilson's laywers accept this. Roves lawyer said it was an "offical" notification. He isn't going to lie, and Fitz doesn't leak. It is over. But the iditements aren't. There may be more, but we aren't getting Rove. That is "official'.Even Dean has already commented. Get a reality grip.

5. why should I follow a pattern of obstruction that leads from the WH
through Rove's office to whatever occurred in the numerous meetings between Rove and Fitz?

Why should I accept any thread that leads to Rove's absolution when I believe so strongly that he's guilty?

I've seen enough to know that a deal could have been pulled in the counsel's office that would have Rove avoid accountability through any number of legal manuevers. It would not be unheard of for a sure indictment to be withdrawn in the face of some technicality or weaseling by Roves attorneys. That's what they get paid the big bucks for.

As for a reality grip. I don't need yours or anyone elses advice on reality. The most surreal thing of the day is the hand wringing and self-emoliation that has resulted from a leak from Rove's attorney; the wording ambiguous enough to allow for some future move against his client, along with the invisible document supposedly containing the momentary assumption of absolution.

How is the blind acceptance by some of the report from Rove's lawyer better reporting than Jason's?

6. Oh, Rove is guilty but Jason is a lousy journalist who
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 12:18 PM by saracat
can't validate his claims! And Rove's lawyer would NOT lie about this. His law license would be at stake. Ad Fitz is NOT denying this.It is foolish to think that this isn't true at this point. This isn't a "leak" by Rove's attorney. This is an "official" statement.

11. an 'official' statement sourced by Rove's lawyer.
Are we accepting administration sources' word as truth now, evidence sight unseen?

4. Jason told truth about the Bush Sec of the Army - and was screwed -
I do not see that as a mark against him.

And the story on Rove is still incomplete.

Reuters is reporting it as "Rove's lawyer said".

10. Plagerism, which he "admitted' is NOT a black mark against him?
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 12:35 PM by saracat
Are you serious? Even if you believe the Thomas White story, Leopold admitted to plagerism from the Finacial Times! He stole seven whole paragraphs and used them as his story! Leopold is referred to as the poor man's Jason Blair for gods sake. Why would anyone trust him?

15. plagerism is indeed a black mark - but it is the Tom White story that
hurt his credibilty - unfairly in my opinion.

We will see - if he does not name his sources, I fold my tent and sneak out of town with egg on my face - so to speak :-)

7. Too late...Ashe has already contaminated himself as well
It's kinda like anchovy on a pizza. You can't get a half-anchovy pizza, because the anchovy scent and flavor digs beneath the cheese to contaminate the whole. The half without anchovies may appear to have none, but when you bite into it, it has that same anchovy funk, and maybe a nasty stray anchovy hair or two. Leopold is the anchovy on truthout's pizza. Finito.

12. Jason Leopold got "Rathered"
Someone (guess who) put false information out there.

Leopold took the bait. I'm sure they were hoping to get someone from a somewhat bigger representative of the "liberal media" than a guy from a little lefty website but he's the one who put it out there first and so now they have his head on a pike.

I'd wait for the official statement from Fitzgerald before I'd ask for Leopold to resign but clearly reporters have to be very careful.

14. Leopold should have had DU question his story
before he went 'public' with it.

would have saved everyone some grief because all the right questions were asked right here.
but no, we're all just dumb unpublished Rove apologists. :sarcasm:

16. Wrong.
Only liberal/leftist reporters have to be 'very careful'. Right-wingers don't have to be right about shit to become well-respected and rich in their milieu.
