Tipper Gore Ready to Support Another White House Run (ABC)
Tipper Gore Ready to Support Another White House Run

June 13, 2006— - She's spent five years recovering from the last run at the White House, but Tipper Gore says she's ready if her husband wants to do it again.

"If he were going to run in the future, of course I would support him," Tipper Gore told ABCNews' Claire Shipman in her first television interview in four years. "I think he'd be a fantastic president. He already got a majority of votes of people in this country once, and so that says something."

Al Gore is back in the political spotlight with his new documentary on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth," and some are wondering if he'll make another run for president.

"I can't say yes, can't say no," Tipper Gore said. "He is saying he's not interested in running in '08."

52. Mention of the Book on the NYT Times Best Seller List
on CNN tonight's interview with Al Gore on Larry King Live. I haven't had a chance to see the movie, and seriously want too. Larry King endorsed the movie big-time, urging everyone to see it. He also mentioned something about the book. I'll certainly get the book, and can't wait till the movie comes on on DVD.

The man, Al Gore, sure does have intelligence and integrity. Sigh...

16. 'T wern't nothin'
I always go directly to the seat of power.

Really though, I was so cryptic that after I sent it I worried she'd think I was a stalker. It said something like, "You've already given so much but you know he's the one. We need him".

No joke, though -quite coindidetally no doubt- her remarks do speak to that sentiment :)

5. Gore is playing it just right, I think
He's more or less asking the Dems to draft him. If they don't, too bad. I think we're looking at a more well-rounded, less inner-beltway Gore, and I think the American people will find him more attractive than in 2000. He's identified an issue only the furthest right wing can argue with, and one that Republicans cannot support if they know what's good for them, or rather, their fundraising.

A lot will become much more clear after November. But I am happy that three or four attractive candidates are rising to the top already.

8. He could decide against it, but I don't see how
He couldn't resist rescuing those in need in NO. I have a hard time seeing him say no to us, but he may.

I do hope that he puts off any sort of decision for as long as possible. That gives him time to get every drop of global warming info out to those with ears to hear, and keeps him off his enemies hot seat.

You're right! I hadn't looked at it that way.

I heard his interview on NPR and I've put two and two together to hopefully come up with four. He said that what he is doing to fight global warming is the most important task he has set for himself. Later on in the interview he noted that there was no position more powerful than POTUS to effect change. Ergo, it seems logical to deduce that he would seek that position. Or so I hope...

64. Definitely. I used to be "myeh" about Gore. But he's so media savvy now...
He's making some really smart moves these days. Just the right amount of SNL, with the perfect balance of humor and an understated "I fuckin' told you so" on, well, everything. I'm a dyed in the wool Clarkie, but Gore has such incredible heat right now. I do kind of wonder if he can keep it going this hot for the next 12 months before it's formally hat-tossing time around the ol' ring. Stay tuned.

17. He is unfairly handicapped
from building a traditional campaign, even within his own party, although that is something that should be changed because that is something that not only effects Gore but the entire ball of wax. Same goes for the despicable MSM illusory mainstream news that still despises him like orcs do the daylight. I hope he does probe strongly if only to find ALL the ways he can effect change in the horrible situation as a whole and find those he can run with decisively even if it is not the presidency.

Because we need a lot more than simply a Dem with a title.

I went to see Mr. Gore's talk on an Inconvenient Truth in Houston last wednesday. So many people yelled out "run Al run!" One lady yelled out "we need you!" It was great to see that he had so many supporters even here in Houston! Tipper was there too, she saw the love. I hope he runs, he has my vote...again!

73. If it is rightfully his then...
...why didn't he fight for it in 2000??? Sorry, I lost respect for the man back then. He would make a good president, but it speaks volumes that he rolled over and played dead, instead of fighting for what should have been rightfully his!!! Let's get behind Democrats with some cajones instead of politicians that end up being steamrolled because they're too timid to fight fire with fire. I, for one, am sick and tired of nominating candidates for President who won't stand up and yell "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!!!!!!!" (Kerry being another one in '04). :grr: :nuke:

To put it politely, he had his balls put in a vice by the Democratic leadership. Plus, he did fight it as long as he could. Once the Supreme Court shut him down, there was little he could.

He's the only man I can think of that could un-do all the harm the bush administration has done to the laws of our country. I want Elliot as Governor of New York but I'd be more than willing to see him clean up the trash left in the wake of John Asscrack and Speedy Gonzalez. Plus it would be a great stepping stone for HIS Presidential run father down the road.

Now THIS is a ticket I could LIVE with!

36. Dear Al Gore: This is bigger than you "wanting" to run...
..sometimes a man is called upon to serve the Country. This is your time. You can make great movies about global warming.. and they help to make people aware. BUT.. until we have control of the most polluting and most powerful nation on Earth, we cannot reverse this path of destruction. I have witnessed the most amazing mix of people desperately wanting you to run in 2008. We understand your profound hurt that this was taken away from you.. from us.. from the entire planet, but you are so needed right now. I cannot imagine another person more qualified, more decent, more worthy, of bringing America back to it's full glory.

Yours truly,
ProgressivebyDesign.

66. I love her, she's great
A great role model who is also a wonderful advocate for women's and mental health issues. That and a great sense of humor make her a great lady.

83. As a parent, I love her EVEN MORE for the the PMRC
As the wife of a pro musician, I see nothing wrong with helping parents out when it comes to lyrics and their kids. Anyone who believes that the uptick of violent and sexist behavior by kids has nothing to do with the media/entertainment they surround themselves with 24/7 is either uninformed or in denial.

57. Instead of wishing Gore would run - - why not work for it?
*Cough* Some of y'all might want to mosey over to our campaign to draft Gore in 2008:

59. Dream a little dream of Al
As with Kucinich's ceremonial candidacy, a little symbolic distraction in the form of a dark horse makes voting for the pro-war, pro-corporate establishment monkey easier in the end.

Think of it as a spoonful of sugar. Then you take your Hillary.

63. I really hope she influences him to run.
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 06:57 AM by MyPetRock
I also desperately hope Wes Clark runs again. We need candidates, and a nominee of course, who refuse to let Iraq be pushed under the rug (many will try even though it's pretty hard to hide a 400 pound gorilla, :eyes:). We need some in your face confrontations about candidates' stands on Iraq, now and previously. If we don't get this debate during the '08 primaries, and if some hawk gets nominated, it is all over. Speaking out against Iraq, and demanding immediate pull out of American troops is the whole ballgame folks. IMCPO.

70. Gore would be a good president, but...
...He showed some of his character in 2000 when he folded like a cheap Wal-Mart lawn chair instead of sticking to his guns and challenging the biggest heist in the history of this late, great Republic. I lost all respect for the man right then and there. We need Democrats who have a set of balls and are not afraid to show them!!! Let's get behind a Democrat who has guts and fire!!!

74. I would be enthusiastic about a Gore run
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 01:05 PM by mvd
Would be behind most any Democrat right now - Kerry, Clark, Hillary Clinton, Feingold - but Gore would excite me almost as much as Feingold or Kucinich running. Gore should be in his second term right now!

81. Tipper said something MORE important if you listen closely.
Watch the interview she did with ABC... she said, very pointedly, and I paraphrase: 'Al said he would not be a candidate in 2008' she went on to say, 'listen to what he said carefully', then she said 'he's only 54'. What she's sasying if you read between the lines is that he's not a candidate in 2008, but sounds like he's thinking.. down the road a bit.

We need him NOW however, because the damage that will be done in the next 8 years, if we do not win the White House in 2008, will be catastrophic in regard to the environment. Earth can't wait! We need him now.. .

I don't know if it's the new hairstyle.. but she's looking really fantastic. She looks well rested and happy... it's nice to see.
