OK-Favor time.-esp from TX DUers-please DU my local paper
http://thedailylight.com/articles/2006/06/12/dailylight/opinion/letters_to_the_editor/03%20letters.txt
reponse to my letter(and my friend's)regarding global warming,et al and gay marriage.Strength in numbers is a good things, and the editor LOVES to print letters. Please, help a sister out!..here's a snip of what he said...
"My patience and tolerance have been severely tested by a couple of your letter writers. Beth "w8liftinglady" writes about “American Priorities” as though the sky is about to fall on us. In a sort of “chicken little” fashion she wants us to think that the world is coming to an end any day now. According to her nothing good is happening in the world, and, according to her and her fellow liberals, it’s because conservatives are in positions of leadership. Their hate for the current administration knows no bounds. Of course, we all know of many good things that are happening to us every day. Let’s start with such a simple thing as “drawing a breath,” “taking a drink of clean water,” “eating a good meal.” Let us be thankful for what we have. For what we have may be more than we deserve!
Thanks,folks.

1. a copy of My letter that got his goat...
The President’s latest call for a Constitutional amendment protecting “The sanctity of marriage” is a thinly-veiled attempt to mobilize his rapidly declining base. Are Republicans so easily led?Let’s think of the things that might be a little more important. We are in a war based on lies that is spiraling into another Viet Nam.My son did three tours in Iraq, and I have seen first-hand the tragedy of this war. There are rumors of war with Iran-with our troops already stretched too thin. The federal deficit has reached limits never conceived by economists...7 trillion dollars of DEBT..and climbing. The upper 1% of us received a large tax break, while our country spirals deeper into debt.45 million Americans have no health or dental insurance. As a nurse,I have seen the byproducts of people who wait until something is really wrong before they see a doctor.
Global warming threatens our planet, and our Republican-led congress is trying desperately to pass the “Clean Skies Act”, which will increase the level of emissions that manufacturing companies and refineries can produce. We are sacrificing our Constitutional right to privacy courtesy of the NSA,and Mr. and Mrs. America thinks it doesn’t affect them.We have a huge trade deficit, and most of our major corporations have offshore accounts,so they don’t have to pay American taxes. But,enough of that.Let’s focus on two guys who want to marry each other. That’s SO much more important.

2. Not from Texas--
if someone who is would like to use these points.

Ok, let's not talk science, let's talk history. In the past year, the artic ice cap has melted like it hasn't done in recorded memory. Polar bears are drowning because they don't have ice floes to ride on. And how many species are on the verge of extinction? Last year, there were a record number of hurricanes in the Atlantic, and many were quite severe. I'd like to know how anyone can contend that something isn't very very wrong with the planet because of these things.

5. Well, it should be pretty easy....
With the line -

...“drawing a breath,” “taking a drink of clean water,” “eating a good meal.”

all that needs to be said -

Thank a Liberal.

The Dems are the ones who gave this man each of those pleasures. But do it quick because Chucklenuts is working like hell to lose all three for all Americans except the really rich.

6. You can do the following because of Liberals sir.
“drawing a breath,” without choking on smog and coal deposits.

“taking a drink of clean water,” without parasites and PCB's

“eating a good meal.” not laced with mercury or other harmful chemicals.

Protect your planet, it's the only one you're going to get. And our country is riding on it.

13. OK-I stole your lines,sort of..here's a rough draft
In response to Mr. King's latest attack,I'm going to use his words and keep it simple.Mr. King stated"Let’s start with such a simple thing as “drawing a breath,” “taking a drink of clean water,” “eating a good meal.” Let us be thankful for what we have".You owe these things to Liberals like myself,Mr. King.
“drawing a breath,” without choking on smog and coal deposits.

You do have a lot to be thankful for,and so do I,Mr.King...thanks to liberals. We need to work together to keep our planet clean and free of harmful chemicals, not nitpick.I'm not the enemy,Mr. King,as much as you'd like me to be.

7. Some interesting points he has "overlooked" -- >>
“drawing a breath,” Ah clean air that is a good thing. Courtesty of Liberals.

“taking a drink of clean water,” Clean water. Wonder where that idea came from?? Could it be... Liberals?.

“eating a good meal.” Safe food, regulations, and the FDA. Another great thing... thank a Liberal.

Mr. King is correct we do have a lot to be thankful for... thankful for Liberals.

8. Just a couple of thoughts...
Liberals are about love for fellow man and earth, not hatred of conservatives. (I hate when they associate liberals with hate)

The current "war on terror" is going on because of the very "chicken little - the sky is falling" mindset of a fearful, willfully uninformed populace.

Nothing good is happening in the lives of the families of the soldiers killed because of this "the sky is falling" war. Their lives are irreparably damaged.

9. Are you in Joe Barton's district?
You might want to point out that our ability to "draw a breath" is not a big priority for Smoky Joe.

16. W8liftinglady, is your friend replying to Mr. King too?
I read his letter, and he got really excited about refuting your friend's support of an "Inconvenient Truth". While slamming Gore as a charlatan and the scientists believing in global warming as nonexistent, he cited a bunch of "facts" that sounded like crap.

So, I Googled this physicist Mr. King literally trusts with his life, Dr. Fred Singer, and found out that Singer's claims of a)thousands of scientists on his side poo-pooing global warming; and b)independence and no money from oil companies, have been checked out and disproven to the point of sheer disgrace. I am guessing your friend and most of the people here already know all this, but just in case ...

There are lots of links, but your friend might like this one for succinctness and for providing bunches of other links for verification. http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/orgfactsheet.php?id=65

good things like a nice tankful of gas, as we skip lunch, which we must give up because we can't afford to eat and drive.

good things like that Big Government Republicans have preached against all these years and it's a big government that cares so much that they're eavesdropping on all our phone calls and email.

good things like our children dying in a war based on a lie for Halliburton profits.

good things like a leader who lies more than a Nazi at the Nuremberg Trials.

yes we indeed have much to be thankful for.

on edit: and don't forget immigration!
