Flippo the Clown Dies
Flippo the Clown Dies
Jun 12 2006 6:37AM

Reported by Jerry Revish

Central Ohio is mourning the loss of a true entertainer and local icon. The man known as Flippo, the King of Clowns, has passed away at the age of 79. The laughter he gave an entire generation will always live on.

"I could be up on a cloud somewhere playing my saxophone with the Glen Miller Orchestra, that would be something," said Bob Marvin.

For more than 30 years, Bob Marvin, better known as Flippo the King of Clowns, filled Columbus with laughter. He dazzled young and old alike with his outrageous jokes and unpredictable slapstick.

Born Marvin W. Fishman in 1927, this Cleveland native was a natural performer. Growing up, he sang on local radio and played the saxophone.

but he's spent his life bringing laughter to others so Cheers to you, Flippo!

4. I'm sure he was a nice guy and all.
And a wonderful entertainer, kind to children and animals, generous to his community, and an all-around grade-A person.

But God, do I hate clowns. I'd spend 24 hours in a Greyhound bus full of Freepers before I'd drive for one hour in a car with a clown. (shivers)

5. He was always showing up
at the State Fair, and when they ran out of things to put on the local news, and such. And he had his own afternoon show.

9. Especially if it's one of those really small cars
That split down the middle after a few laps around the center ring.
