You heard it here first: Immigration is a problem but MIGRATION
will become an even greater problems as changing weather and climate conditions spark migration of "red-staters" to and mature and less hazardous infrastructures of the "blue states" and "blue areas" of the red states.

And I am wondering right now who withing state and local governments is thinking about this and preparing for this? The "red state" bigots, homophobes, and religious zealots will be tiring of natures smack down of human kind and will be running from seasons of drought, fires, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes not to mentions the massive use of fuels needed to address the rural sprawls of newly built communities that seek to segregate themselves from the rest of us. I'm talking about the people who have grabbed the sea coast lands, the huge ranches and forests, because they had the money to do it but in so doing have placed themselves in some of the most unstable climate areas of the nation. Soon, the rest of us will tire of paying to rebuild their sacred nests and to subsidize their untouchable "safe havens." Many will be migrating to the areas with less natural disaster hazard and better transportation and health care facilities. Even the colleges located in these areas will be in trouble.

Flame me now, but think about this because it is problem wailing to be noticed. The "blue" areas of "red states" are going to be particularly hit by this as the elite find their way to buy up properties and land that were deserted for the oligarchy promised lands of the west, deep south, and eastern ocean fronts. All those condo going up in major cities are hint at what is about to take place. After years of condemning the blue-folks they will come in hordes to move next to you and it won't matter that much if you are gay couple, a black family Asian family. And of course, the system is designed to continue to give them all the benefits and to push the rest of us out. People need to begin to pay attention to zoning laws, development, and the tax structure in your local areas. Within the next 8-10 years, the "bluers" won't know what hit them/

1. Interesting point.
Another thing that will happen is that these people will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of such things as the local schools, and then will promptly set about lowering taxes and de-funding the good schools, and be quite surprised when the quality of them declines.

2. Big news: Plenty of bigots and homophobice in Blue States
Seems a lot of us in RED STATED run into some who are always bashing people in Red States without knowing much about us. Isn't that sorat like, oh, what's the word?

3. Yes, they are already in the blue areas, so they won't be "moving in."
I'm talking about the folks who will be migrating.

10. Boy, you sure know a lot
of WRONG stuff.
I am one of less the a half dozen DEMs in my county.

And about migrating... this is where food is grown. When city folk get hungry enough, I'll put the light in the window for some of ya.

4. Red State Blue State is a bit of a mental trap i think
That said, yeah Migratory patterns could screw us down the road - but could have some positive aspects as well. Bigotry has two components - hatred and ignorance. Some are more full of hatred and won't change - some are more full of ignorence, and might see things a bit differently as they are forced into contact with others.

11. INDEED!
No way to make friends and influence people by being bigots about them without knowing them.

Lots of people here planning to vote DEM this year. Wanna make sure they don't? Keep up with the red state bashing like the OP did.

Dr Dean gets it. Wish more around here would.

Thanks for the back-up, bryant69. The Red State/Blue State thing is a contrivance of the GOP to be just one more wedge dividing the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

7. Hey, havocmom -
You wouldn't by chance be from the Huntsville, AL area, would you? I used to live in Madison, AL & followed the Huntsville Havoc hockey team is the reason I ask.

13. Naw...
We're with the Columbus (GA) Cottonmouths now - you know how hard it is to keep hockey going in Red State America? Our main problem with immigration is getting our players visas that are good for the entire season!
Sorry, enough about minor league hockey...we can all return to politics now...

5. You're a bit late, this kind of thing is already going on................
....and has been for quite some time in many areas. But you are right, it's going to get real bad from here on as many areas can no longer sustain life or can't sustain life as well as them hated blue areas can. Did I ever tell you I positively loathe repukes??????

8. this is satire, right?
replace "red staters" with "illegal immigrants" and you'd have a rant worthy of the Minutemen

Maybe we should build a wall around San Francisco to keep them out?

12. Thank you!
Amazing how that sort of bigory HERE gets missed. Me, I'll call BS on it every time I see it.

There are some bigots among my neighbors here. But when I lived in big cities in 'blue states' some of my neighbors were also bigots.

The color thing is a wedge issue to make sure we are a people divided and easily conquered. We have more in common than we know.

never said bigots were not already in blue areas. Get a grip. I'm just pointing out a demographic change that is going to take us all by surprise if we are not aware of it.

16. Get a grip yourself
Making generalizations about people in/from red states which would not be acceptable here on DU if said about ethnic groups, gender groups and so on is not something I aim to let go unchallenged. It's obtuse, bigoted and not helpful to our cause at all.

14. There has been a migration from rural to urban America going on
for several generations now. Life on the family farm will not support many anymore. The average age of the American farmer is somewhere around 54 or so.

But we are graced with the occasional newbie here, escaping from city life and thinking they can live off the land. Wish urban education systems were good enough that folks would know ya can't just find a field, decide to stay and expect to find enough to eat.
