FLAG BURNING AMENDMENT EXPECTED TO BE CLOSE.

Jeezus God there has GOT to be something more important to amend the constitution because of besides flag burning.

Burn every single damn flag there is for all I care, so what? Is it even worth debating while Hitler is risen from the grave?

----------

And on edit, I don't give a damn if this headline is used by the other side to make us look bad.

4. But, I already burn flags!
Every Veteran's Day, my Scout Troop collects old, worn-out, and no longer fit to be displayed flags, and we troop them over to the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, MA. (You might have heard of it.)

Anyway, there's a ceremony with the Vets, and we burn all the old flags.

Was congress planning on ammending the US flag code, too? Because I'm sure they don't want Scout Troops and VFWs doing anything illegal...

9. How will they be able to prove if it was a worn-out flag or a protest?
I can just envision people disposing of their old flags and somehow it's videoed and posted on the internet and then all hell breaks loose. This is such a waste of time.

5. It's not respectful to burn our flag...
but it's not respectful of our Constitution and our sacred right to Free Speech to punish people for doing so.

As for me, I'm not going to worry about people who burn flags--depending on who's wearing it when it's burned. I don't like the idea of getting our soldiers blood on the little flag patches they wear on their uniforms either--in fact, that bothers me infinitely more. I think that's so for most people, yet I don't see any Amendments barring putting our soldiers in harms way for invalid reasons (or in an illegal war). Sure, that's supposed to be obvious and go without saying...

Alas, nothing that makes sense, is honest or ethical--is understood, much less goes without saying by our current Presidential Administration. Indeed, it wouldn't even matter if it were written up as a law by Congress--nothing makes any impact on that Administration. It should be impeached--followed by criminal prosecution--and, I don't mean George W. Bush, I mean the Administration! I mean President, Vice-President and Cabinet--all inclusive. Prior to 2000, when laws meant something, any President who broke 1/1000th as many laws would have been impeached in a heartbeat. That is the facinating, disturbing thing... first that we haven't impeached, second that we can't seem to manage to impeach, and third, that so many people (term is used loosely here) in America wouldn't support impeachment--and would claim they had a right to disobey the law. They've forgotten the difference between an Autocracy/Dictatorship and a Constitutional Democratic Republic and don't seem to understand what the "Rule of Law" means.

Burn all the flags you want; it's legal and should not be considered for being made illegal. But if you want to punish people for breaking the law, look elsewhere--seek out the really important criminals. Look to the White House.

6. the reasons issues like health care are not on the agenda is that it will
take $$ and our piggy bank is broke. In the meantime an amendment is pratically free.

7. I don't use the flag to kill women and children.
I don't paint in on bombers so people see it as the symbol of death raining
down on their heads.
Burning the flag? How could you or I disgrace the flag more that
the psychopaths who monger our wars?

13. Keeping the flag burning issue alive, reminds people to be patriotic, to
Edited on Sat Jun-10-06 04:19 PM by LaPera
love and be proud of their country...You know?

It keeps BusCo & the corporations in business & protected...out of flag burning comes people chanting slogans like, "America, Love It or Leave It" and "Support America Right or Wrong".

Its a ridiculous non issue...but a great one so as it gives republicans and the media something to talk and feel "strongly" about...so as NOT to have to talk about the real issues & problems we have here in our country...

Flag burning then becomes a great divider...And that's exactlly what the republicans want, love & need!

What a bunch meaningless bullshit the republicans keep throwing out at every election time.

But it keeps them close in order to steal elections.

14. HERE is why they are doing this, and the marriage bs--Posturing
It is an election year. None of them truly expects either the flag desecration or marriage bs amendments/bills to pass. They are posturing so they can say "see, I am a (insert word here)" so you should vote for me. It is posturing.

Start talking this up, posturing, posturing, posturing. "Do you REALLY think (congressperson)'s posturing is enough to over ride all the bad things they have done (list bad stuff)?"
