5. Conditions in the Atlantic basin are like....
...late July or early August. See Kerry Emmanuel's discussion on global warming at his site: http://wind.mit.edu/~emanuel/anthro2.htm

2. In another thread, I replied...
What was brewing has now blossomed into the first tropical cyclone of the season for the Atlantic basin. Currently, the NHC (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov ) is calling it Tropical Depression 1 (TD1), but confidence is high that later today it will become Tropical Storm Alberto. Fortunately, in spite of insanely high sea-surface temperatures, it should not intensify to hurricane status because of the upper level shearing at the 300mb level (about 33,000'). This will be a wet willy for Florida and since we're really parched, will bring some relief.

7. Rain...
My parents live north of Tampa/St. Pete. They could use a little rain.

11. I've been laying up supplies for months
A few extra cans of meat and veggies and a few gallons of water each trip to the grocery store.

Today I'm cutting plywood for the windows and I already have my Plylox clips.
