NYT: Dartmouth Fraternity "Animal House" Searched, Student Arrested
Dartmouth Fraternity House Is Searched, Student Arrested
By KATIE ZEZIMA
Published: June 9, 2006

BOSTON, June 9 — The police in Hanover, N.H., searched the Dartmouth College fraternity house that inspired the 1978 movie "National Lampoon's Animal House" for more than five hours on Thursday in what they said was part of a nearly two-year investigation.

A member of the fraternity, Alpha Delta, was arrested on drug charges and released. Police said that the 19-year student was charged with marijuana possession and that a second student is expected to be arrested on a similar charge.

Police Chief Nicholas J. Giaccone Jr. would not reveal the nature of the investigation, and a judge has placed the search warrant and affidavits under seal. The police removed 10 crates, two bags, a videotape and a computer, The Associated Press reported.

A lawyer for the fraternity and its alumni adviser would not comment on the investigation today. The lawyer, George Ostler, said the fraternity's 60 or so members did not know they were being investigated, and what they know is "rumor and speculation," he said.

Dartmouth officials would not comment on the investigation....

6. Yeah, 'cause we know college students
don't smoke that stuff...

What a waste of police time and money.

I'll sit up and take notice if this ever happens at Patrick Henry College though (or any other fundie "college").

8. Oh my God -- I am shocked, shocked, shocked, I tell you.
Can you imagine? A college boy with a Bag O'Weed. Horrors.

These Republicans have no moral discernment whatsoever.

The next thing you know they will start thinking for themselves.

I am shocked, I tell you.

5. Yeah really...
Not only is it absurd to charge people for marijuana possession, but for it to take them two years to find two college students. It's been my experience that you only need to walk down a college dorm hallway and you'd catch at least two people.
