It was almost pointless to have the witnesses last. (yes I know their testimony will be recorded)

3. Why Can't Our Leaders Get It Right For Once?

Democrats keep letting themselves be out flanked by the rethugs at every opportunity. The rethug groups started a while back to advertise and make public pronouncements, thus setting the stage for how the hearings would proceed.
Since the rethugs control the committee, I had expected them to do all in their power to set the stage in their favor. However, the democrats seem to lack much of a game plan.
Democrats stupidly decided to wait until the hearing to air whatever they have. This amounted to naught. Look at Harriet Meiers situation - the rw-wackos came right out to condemn and scuttle her nomination.
Geez - I am so frustrated with our leaders - it is becoming a ridiculous and depressing pattern of being out flanked all over.

5. Our congressional leaders have absolutely no control over

how hearings are run. That power rests entirely in the hands of the majority party.

Democratic leaders have been speaking out against (Sc)Alito for weeks. The media ignores them. The media has ignored quite a bit that has happened in the last few weeks, and has pronounced that the hearings were a great success and that the Democrats came up with nothing and that (Sc)Alito will sail through unchallenged, and you have believed them. The media is a lying sack of shit.

(Sc)Alito would have had to announce that he was still an active member of the KKK and that he and his wife dined on newborn babies every morning and intended to continue to do so for the media to have noted that 'perhaps the Democrats have uncovered issues here that need to be addressed'.
