I didn't know dead people could heal so fast? (Warning - graphic)
But it seems that the Amazing Zarqawi's wounds greatly improved from one picture to the next. Odd?

4. Both are pics released today of al-Zarqawi
The second picture was actually released first. However, it is a picture of a picture. They did not release the original digital image. The top picture was released around midday.

3. The freezer burn on the cheek in the lower pic is a nice touch.
You'd think the army would spring for heavy duty foil, but apparently not.

5. Doesn't look like they healed at all
It just looks like they wiped the blood away. The wounds are actually completely consistent across pictures. I hope that's not all the evidence for your case...

6. they just wiped of the blood and closed the mouth
the face shows only superficial scratches. The real injuries are not shown. Get back to reality please.

7. So which picture was taken first
The top one or the one where he's cleaned up?

If the cleaned up one is second, wouldn't he still be at least as puffy. Especially around the eyes. The shiner on his left eye seems to be much better in the cleaned up pic.

8. top is first
second : different light, lower resolution, somewhat different angle. A bit of cleanup. Explains the difference.

17. According to Reuters he was still alive when he was turned over to the US
and he died later from his injuries.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was killed in a joint attack by U.S. helicopters and Iraqi forces, ABC news reported on Thursday.

It said U.S. helicopters hit a house near Baquba, 40 miles (65 km) north of Baghdad, at 6 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

"Zarqawi was apparently injured at first... The Americans found him. They handed him over to the Iraqis and he later died of his injuries," ABC said.

If he was still alive, why didn't they clean him up when they administered medical attention? Or did they not bother to try to save his life and just let him die instead?

21. So what is the truth?
Was he dead or alive when he was turned over to US Custody? It makes a big difference if he was still alive.

26. The general during his press conference referred to his "body."
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 11:14 PM by alfredo
He then said it was transported to a secure location.

I don't think he is cleaned up in either image. The poor quality of the bottom image doesn't show the blood, but you can see that it is there.
Still there is something not right. I just don't see how he could still be in such good condition after being hit by two 500lb bombs.

23. Correction - the report says the US turned him over to the Iraqis
and that he was still alive at that point.

Why the hell would we turn him over to anyone, if we had him first?

Though, I am surprised his face is still intact after being blown to bits by two 500 lb. bombs. I expected to only see bits of teeth and bone, if anything.

20. Seems they made him up a fair bit
but still wanted him to look nasty. Why did they need to manipulate the pictures or his body at all? Why was the first image released the 'doctored image', instead of the 2nd more gruesome image?

I am questioning the timing and the obvious staging of this photo op. Because if this guy was alive and mortally wounded, when he was turned over to US custody, then some attempt should have been made to treat him for his injuries and to save his life once he was in our custody. There shouldn't be any pictures of him dead with a bloody face and no signs of any sort of treatment having been administered.

I don't care what kind of SOB this asshole might have been, but if we let him die just to used his body for a photo op, that's beyond disgusting.

22. Maybe they want everyone to be able to clearly ID him?
Maybe that's the reason they cleaned him up for the photo?
