How much do you hate College Republicans?

Members of the College Republicans National Committee dress as the Grim Reaper as they march on Capitol Hill on Thursday to call on lawmakers to eliminate the estate tax.

3. Ralph Reed actually rigged the election of the president of UGA CRs
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 05:12 PM by CottonBear
when he was a student at the University of Georgia. Ralph Reed is such a goddamn bastard.
Rigged election
In the spring of 1983, Reed was accused of rigging the election of ally Sam Harbren as his successor as president of the College Republicans at the University of Georgia. Lee Culpepper wrote to the College Republican National Committee calling the election a sham. The CRNC investigated the matter, reprimanded Reed and ordered a new election. However, in the meantime, Culpepper "led an angry exodus" out of the UGA College Republicans and into a newly formed Young Republicans of Clarke County club. Reed's candidate Sam Harben admitted later, "We ran a dirty election." (Nina J. Easton, Gang of Five, page 129-130)

5. They don't belong in college.
Having just graduated college, I had to deal with these specimens all the time. They're a bunch of big-talking yet cowardly hawks with a total inflexibility in their thinking. They do not belong in an academic environment, the entire aim of which is to open up the floor to new ideas and new ways of thinking.

6. The surgery on that first marcher's costly. They need $$$$ for that.
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 05:22 PM by faygokid
I won't even note Iraq here; too obvious. Just remember that they have every reason to eliminate the "death tax:" They need the money for things like the enormous boob job the first marcher paid for. Those things cost money, people!!!

I also doubt any of them are rich enough to be affected by the estate tax.

13. I was a CR back in the day
I've always been a registered Democrat but one of my best friends started the CR chapter at my college and begged me and my roommate to join so that he could have a group to take to the Maryland State CR Conventions.

In our day, the state organization at least was pretty moderate. I think our slogan was "We're somewhere between 'What the heck, let 'em have Alaska back' and 'NUKE 'EM TILL THEY GLOW!'"

14. You know, when I went to college, we were taught critical thinking.
You know, looking at all sides of an issue and then deciding for yourself what is right. That was when I learned about the Democratic Party. Unless these are all "preppy" rich kids, I've got to wonder if they really know who the estate tax elimination really benefits.

And if they ARE rich kids, too bad they haven't been taught the art of service to others, which we see in folks like the Kennedy clan and Chelsea Clinton.
