Just as I shake my head in disbelief that ANYONE could still support *
It occurred to me this morning that millions of Germans
supported Hitler. I'll bet there were people back then
who shook their heads in disbelief that ANYONE could
support a man like Hitler. And look what happened.

It would seem history is once again repeating itself.

5. He is not likely to lose his seat. All the Dems in the Senate will
support him. I hope i am wrong.
Has there been one Senator to support Lamont over LIEberman?

7. There were some differences.
If anything, it's even worse today.

It's true that a good section of the intelligentsia couldn't stand Hitler. But they could not speak out, as they were often Communist or sympathizers, and the brownshirts would come along and beat you or kill you. There was a real threat of bodily harm to "shaking your head" at Hitler.

Second, Hitler was a mesmerizing speaker. Unlike Shrub, who can't seem to string two sentences together. So there just wasn't as much cause to shake your head at that element of his personality.

And finally, the sentiment in Germany was overWHELMINGly in support of fascism. It was just downright dangerous not to support it. But here, - what - Bush's numbers are like 30%? We have no reason not to be speaking out.
