The question is not, "Is Ann Coulter a hate-filled bitch."
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 08:38 PM by Plaid Adder
I think that goes without saying. The question is: why does she still get air time?

The only reason she goes around saying this shit is that it gets her on the talk shows and sells books. Her books get more heinous and more outrageous because shock value is the only thing she has to sell. She can't construct a coherent argument, she can't have a real conversation, and she really can't write very well. The only thing that distinguishes her from a million other right-wing morons is that she's willing to say in public under her own name what they will only post under aliases at Free Republic. Because she has no shame, no sense of compassion, and no interest in the consequences of her hatemongering, she's willing to say things that anyone else, regardless of political affiliation, could never physically utter because as soon as they tried they would die of shame. So that's her brand. Hateful shit you won't find any other human being willing to say in print. She and Fred Phelps are basically selling the same product, but she's more successful, perhaps because she looks slightly better in a dress.

Fine, she's an asshole, whatever. My question is: why is anyone still giving her a platform? Sure, she has a right to her opinion and to say whatever she wants; but nowhere in the Constitution does it specify that she has the right to be paid to do it. How insane does she have to get before people stop bringing her onto their talk show sets and letting her spew? What's the justification? As far as I can tell she has no credentials and nothing constructive to say. Based on her interview with Matt Laurer, it also appears that she literally cannot answer a simple question unless it relates directly to herself. So in what sense is she an appropriate guest for a talk show?

I'm not even going to ask what her publishers are thinking. Her publishers are thinking they can make money flogging her crap, and that's all they care about. I hope they'll lose money on this one; maybe it would spare us the next.

There's not much point to hanging around here talking about how pissed off we are at Ann Coulter. It's her job to piss you off. There would be some point to writing to whatever media outlet you saw her on this morning to ask what in the world they were thinking when they invited her on, and whether they and their sponsors really want to be associated with this kind of sleaze.

I'm just sayin',

1. George Stephanopoulos said it best
When he was on Imus today, he said why are we even talking about this and helping her sell more books?

That circus sideshow is nothing but an oxygen-stealer, a pathetic attention junkie who doesn't deserve a passing mention. Her 15 minutes should have expired a long time ago.

3. My theory
is that the corporatist controllers of the media need a set of far right fascist Nazis so that the not so far right "pundits" they hire (who still are responsible for making "liberal" a dismissive word) not so crazy and, therefore, more acceptable to the general population. Hence, you have Tucker and Joe and their ilk distancing themselves from the Ann Coulters of the world.

denounced by prominent repukes is not surprising, but disgusting nonetheless. How low must one of their own sink before they'll speak out? What vile, rancid filth will they tolerate out of the mouth of one of their own before a pang of conscience creeps in? The only repuke I've heard about who has spoken out is Congressman Peter King, who I despise, but who at least had the decency to call her on it. Anyone who doesn't immediately and forcefully disown these comments is as sick as Coulter.

As for why they give her air time, they think she'll improve their ratings. Period.

7. Sad, isn't it. As long as she's blonde and long-legged, she'll be given a
platform. But I can't believe she helps the RW any longer. Even though she's actually proven herself right. She can't criticize the 9-11 widows. Not the way she's doing it.

I like your suggestion. Letter-writing campaigns work - especially with advertisers.
