Sen. Talent: Protecting Marriage in the Senate (donation plea)
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 11:04 AM by usregimechange
I'm writing to you today to let you know that I have just returned from casting my vote against a Democrat-led filibuster of the amendment to protect traditional marriage. I'm a co-sponsor of the amendment and I was very disappointed that, even with the strong support of many senators, we could not move to an up-or-down vote to preserve the traditional definition of marriage.

This issue represents a big difference between me and my opponent. Claire McCaskill supports gay marriage and recently she told the media she's opposed to a Constitutional Amendment to protect traditional marriage. McCaskill also opposed a ballot measure in Missouri that banned gay marriage that was supported by more than 70 percent of Missourians. McCaskill clearly does not support the common sense, conservatives of the heartland.

...

That's why I need your immediate financial support today to help my campaign.

From one of his campaign e-mails.

2. this should be the correct re-write.....
"McCaskill clearly does not support the bigotry of gay-bashing or debasement of an unrepresented minority of the heartland."

I would never be prouder than to distinguish myself from such Dark Ages knuckledraggers.

Go Claire!

4. Democrat-led filibuster? So this is how they spin it to their base?
We would have passed this ban on gays if those mean old, but all powerful Democrats hadn't kept us from doing it?

Spread this bullshit far and wide - we can't let them get away with putting this type of spin on it.

10. The GOP has done well appealing to ignorance and bigotry
I hope McCaskill doesn't let the opportunity pass to hit back, promptly and hard. There are several avenues of retort, but I think one of the best ones is to point out how the GOP is wasting time and money on a constitutional amendment that they know isn't going to pass (Can't the GOP count to 60? That would explain their inability to pass a balanced budget!) while ignoring the very real crises in Iraq and in our own country where so many millions can't afford health care, to name just two.

Spending time on useless bigotry doesn't make Iraq one iota stabler, nor does it pay for a doctor visit for your sick child. The GOP needs to get off their obsession with citizens' private lives, and actually do something for the good of the country, its citizens and its military.

11. Yup, I'm all for using "practicality", when applying to higher ideals
is a lost cause. Pragmatism is just as valid.

6. I want this asshole gone
Hopefully, everyone and their pet can see this for the pandering it is, I'm hopeful that after the reaming out the fundie freaks have gotten here in the past two years they've lost their appetite for meddling in politics.
