Patients' personal records in stolen briefcase
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_4756197,00.html

The Colorado Department of Human Services on Tuesday notified 247 current and former patients that documents containing some of their personal information was in an employee's briefcase that was stolen April 21. The department also notified 29 employees that their names, addresses and Social Security numbers were in the stolen briefcase.

The department has disciplined the employee, who took the documents home with him to work on employee evaluations.

The incident is the second time in five months that concerns over identity theft have been raised following a theft of documents from a Colorado public institution.

In February, officials at Metropolitan State College of Denver notified 93,000 students and former students that a laptop computer containing all of their personal information had been stolen from an employee who was doing research.

1. Acute laziness puts this info at risk.
There is no other excuse for carting around documents or computer files with that level of individually identifiable and sensitive data.

2. Sure been a lot of people walking around with info they
shouldn't be having either on their computers, or like here, in a briefcase. And of course its all been stolen.

Whatever.
