My real target was not real Christianity or liberal-minded Christians, but rather, the way the symbols themselves are being used. Businesses with the little fish logo in their advertising, for example. I know of several who hire only fundamentalists of their own stripe, pay them poor wages, and take advantage of their supposed commonality of faith to exploit them in various ways. Meanwhile the right-wing churches exhort their members to only spend money at "Christian" retailers, vote only for right-wing "Christian" political candidates, etc.

Tell me true--when you see a little fish symbol on a car, how high do you think the odds are that the occupant thinks he/she belongs to a persecuted religious minority of "real Christians," supports Bush, and thinks America would be better off as a fundamentalist theocracy?
