Ellie Nesler Leaves Prison (13 yrs - shot man that molested her son)
Ellie Nesler Leaves Prison
Written for the web by C. Johnson, Internet News Producer

The Sonora woman who gained national attention when she shot her son's accused molester in a Tuolumne County courtroom 13 years ago has been freed from prison.

Ellie Nesler was released from the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla after serving nearly four years of a six-year sentence for possessing and selling illegal drugs.

In 1993, Nesler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for shooting Daniel Driver five times during a preliminary hearing on charges he had molested four youths, including her son Willy.

The shooting sparked a national debate on vigilantism.

4. Because serving 3 years of a 10 year sentence
for shooting someone 5 times in a frigging COURTROOM is just too harsh :sarcasm:

She committed pre-meditated MURDER - she was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

2. I don't condone vigilantism, so I belive her sentence was justified
I'm quite certain I'll be in the minority.

3. I agree she should have been sentenced to do time. I wonder about

the time though. Thirteen years should be the norm for all people convincted of that crime. But I think many murderers.. get less for killing complete innocents. This woman was obviously insanely angry with justification..the angry part.

Seems unfair that real dangers to society (I'm guessing she will never kill again) can get less time.

5. Should she be on the sex offenders registry now?
She did, after all, kill a man over sex with a child.

:sarcasm:

6. How many years did she serve for the shooting?
This is a separate prison sentence (for drugs) that she was serving and just released. Sounds like the whole family is messed up (from the same article):

Nesler's son has had his own troubles with the law. He was convicted last summer of first-degree murder in connection with the stomping death of a man at the Neslers' property in 2004. Nesler was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
