Nothing has changed--not a DAMN thing. Why, WHY is it
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 01:37 AM by Blue_Roses
that in the 21st century men still control what women do to their bodies--repeat--THEIR BODIES. We all know the answer to that.

Watching these hearings this week all I can think of is how funny the next SNL skit will be, 'cause we all know that's all this has been is one big joke. These "hearings" were for "show" and nothing more...oh, wait, I forgot the biggest show--Alito's wife.:eyes: She deserves an oscar.

And we can't forget the funniest thing of all and that is women actually thought they had a place in this country. Damn. We were wrong and we apologize for speaking out of place. :grr:

1. SOME men, yes?
Edited on Sat Jan-14-06 02:04 AM by Skip Intro
And some women readily agree with them.

I'm a man and I'm on the side of equality in the eyes of the law. The government has no business telling anyone, man or woman, what they can and cannot do with their own bodies, otherwise, any so-called right to privacy is a charade.

Even further, if the government is granted control of the physical bodies of the citizens of this country, if we all become "property of the state," then we're done. Its over. Its no longer "we the people" calling the shots, with a government of servants - we become the servants. It changes so much more than what is apparent in the short term.

(on edit, the op originally mentioned "MEN" as culprits. My repsonse was, in part, to that, hence "some men")

pretty much sealed the deal, presuming your presmise is accurate. Sometime back in the mid to late 70s, IIRC.

5. Makes me think of Freud's day
when husbands could commit their wives against their wills to asylums for a reason as simple as the wife having a negative attitude about her 'station' in life.

Scary, and maybe this is where we are heading.

6. Get yer butt out in the kitchen and make me some pie!

I'm an oldie, and I had to shake my head at the irony of a bunch of entrenched white males "expressing" their concerns about Roe v Wade.

You'd think the 60s never happened.

:smoke: :hi:

10. It is because we frame the wrong as discrimination and not privilege.
That is why it stays the same. Until we can talk about the hierarchy that is established by privilege we will never change.

12. Here we are in 2006 watching this
charade in which only one of the Senators on the committee is a woman, and unfortunately DiFi is not Boxer.

Ultimately a bunch of men, and a few women who are a disgrace to their gender, will vote to approve Judge Coathanger's nomination and reverse 100 years of progress in the struggle for women's rights and equal justice under law for everyone in this country.

13. I found a book at my grandmother's from 1920 that could land you in jail
That book was titled "Feminine Hygiene" but it told you how to prevent pregnancy. I found it when I was about 15 and since I read everything I read it. She kept it to remember.

But like the African American kids the same age as mine who returned to the back of the bus because they had no memory of their history even my youngest sister has forgotten why choice so hard won, saves lives and families.
