I think she was. The only difference between Sam Alito and George W Bush is that Sam hasn't yet learned to hold his arms to his side like a gunslinger and walk around like he has a corncob stuck up his ass. Otherwise, they are peas in a pod. Harriet Miers was far superior to either of them, in my opinion.

2. I think Alito is competent, that is not the issue. The issue is what
he does with his competence. Both he and Miers were going to do the same thing, though--crown King George.

3. Harriet Myers was unacceptable to the neo-cons. They booted
her and Bush got back in line.

4. I don't think there's anyway to know.
I do think Harriet would have been more manuverable by others on the court though. I don't know about Alito. He's very used to listening to his bosses and not making his own decisions.

I actually thing the most powerful person on the court right now is Roberts. He's not a bully, but he seems to have the ability to convice others to think as he does. We'll have to wait and see just what that means.

5. She did her job. And that job was to put a woman as a nominee so she
could then be rejected. Taking her and an unwitting Bush on a long fun ride. Then they got to impose another well gaged extremist - male. (The previous two female extremists were not up to par really). So girls tried to go wild but no. GOP has their man!

6. Harriet was as effeminate as Sam
Both are characterized by weakness and excessive refinement

7. Alito will have to suck up

...the fact that Harriet got the nod before he did.

He was considered to be second best. IIRC, he was mad that he wasn't chosen when Harriet was still in the running.

Cheers!

8. how is he incompetent?
I don't want Alito on the court and I think that the federalist society is a scourge on the world. Alito dodged questions and seems to have beliefs that I think are selfish and wrong (judging by the federalist society and the very fact that he was nominated by bush). But he is nominally qualified. He was given a "well qualified" rating by the ABA.
