Strange things are happening down here. Because of the family
obligations and the holidays, I missed a couple of "Thursday" nights.

Thursday night is when a group of us get together to blow off the work week. We all work in the same related field. We seldom discuss politics, but the majority are 'Republican,' or at least think they are. And since I taught a lot of them mathematics in my previous 'life,' they tolerate this libr'ul, pinko, commie fascist.

Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I was only gone a couple of weeks. And I return to find that they have turned against the Great Leader, almost to the person. And, they are very vocal about it.

I tried to make some sense of it. Was it the DSM, lies to war, 2100 dead, lack of body armor, Abramoff, the election fraud, Plame, wiretapping? What? It was none of the above.

He is, and I quote, a sniveling little coward. No explanation as to why they feel this way. He is just a sniveling little coward.

Strange.

And I would like to thank the DU'ers for the well wishes that I received this past week over my loss. I am trying to make sense of it, and put into words the events of the past few weeks.

1. I hope Junior's posturing over Iran doesn't change their minds.
Or could that be part of it?

4. Interesting!
I think * will be quite unpopular as time goes by. We have an opportunity in 2006.

That said, I doubt that * will be more pleasant as his approval ratings fall.

6. Thanks. My aunt, 95 years old and not the oldest of the sisters,
passed on January 2nd. Twenty of the thirty-three living first cousins made it to the funeral. She stood as grandparent to many of us.

It was her wish that we party at her house after services, and we did.

She was working class. We are from a working class background that our parents kept pushing us to transcend. Push, push, push. They all wanted their children to be part of the "Middle Class." That class of people with professions and security.

But what I came to realize is that we ended up as part of the "Muddled Class," nominally Republican. Thank God, there was only one Conservative in the group, but we run the gamut from Evangelicals to Moderate-confused Republicans.

I am still trying to sort what happened to my generation, and will report later.

7. Moderate-Confused Republican
I love it. Describes my husband to a T. I think this NEW Republican Party has created a lot of those MCRs.

9. I think we should also recall that we have about 20,000 men who
have been hurt very badly in Iraq. Most of those men will live another 40 to 60 years with that. Makes one think a little I guess
