The hypocrisy is stunning
I was perusing Fox News this morning, as I often do, and I ran across this storyabout the gay marriage debate. It's pretty boilerplate fare, they're asking the question if this is important or a distraction....

One of the responses just leaped out at me in its monstrosity. Reproduced below for your reading enjoyment....it truly boggles the mind.

"I am in complete support of a constitutional amendment to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. Marriage is a God-ordained, not a man-made, institution. Therefore, we have no right to attempt to re-define it. But I firmly believe that the real issue here is not about marriage itself. It goes much deeper than that. It is about a group of individuals wanting to legally force society to not only accept but embrace their chosen lifestyle. To force us to say that this way of life is okay. People have the freedom to choose the way they want to live their lives. But they do not have the right to force that upon others." — Mark (St. Louis Park, MN)

And there's one more....I'm glad I've been brainwashed by 'tolerance', aren't you?

"The bestselling book of all times is the Holy Bible. It is without error from the front cover to the back, including the word 'Holy.' For thousands of generations it has been made clear that a marriage is between one man and one woman. God created Adam and Eve. The younger generation has been brainwashed with this thing called tolerance. With true Christianity there can never be compromise." — Paul

And now I'm going to stop before I make myself, and the rest of us, sick.

2. Hmmmm...
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 06:15 AM by notadmblnd
could of sworn I read stories in the bible where men had more than one wife. Can anyone point out exactly where in the bible it says marriage is between one man and one woman? And was Adam and Eve even married? I don't recall anything written down in regards to a ceremony?

Just saying that these people wouldn't know what's in the Bible if it jumped out and bit them in the ass.

3. Even without a "Constitutional Amendment" there is no ...................
....condoning or "forcing anyone to accept anything" even now without the Constitutional Amendment. From what I understand gay couples can't will anything to their partner as "regular couples" can do in an estate. So, at the very least, why not leave it all alone? I'll tell you why, Bush needs that neocon/fundie base and this is the issue that might draw them all back into the fold. Now please understand that I'm not gay so I obviously don't understand all the issues involved for gay couples but what other people do in their bedrooms is none of my business.

4. Well, there IS a shred of truth in one of those statements...
>>People have the freedom to choose the way they want to live their lives. But they do not have the right to force that upon others.">>

This applies just as much to the fundies and everybody else who align themselves with the "Christian Right."

God, save me from your followers....

5. Adam and Eve were never married.
And the chapter in Matthew they invoke when saying "marriage is a man and a woman..." is actually Jesus speaking out against divorce.

7. The religious right does as much cherry picking of scripture
that Bush does of intelligence reports. They conveniently ignore anything that doesn't fit into their close-minded beliefs.
