Al Gore refuses to say "I will not run for for president"
until he does, my sig line stays. He has said everything that implies he won't run, except that he won't run.

15. Others deny they are running but the specualtion on them continues
Among those who say (or have said) they aren't running but are still getting encouragement to do so are:

Hillary (multiple sources)
Barak Obama
Bloomberg
McCain
and the list goes on.

Why can't we treat Gore the same? Why can't we continue to encourage him to run? If we keep trying maybe he will say yes.

20. Ah, but there's one thing he said this morning
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 12:10 PM by DVJNU
on the talk show: no one has more ability to shape events than the president of the United States. I'm hoping that his passion for the fight against global warming will lead him to seek the best position from which to fight it. PRESIDENT GORE!

He also said there's some things he doesn't do well at politically. Well, next time he'll have the entire netroots community watching his back. Lots of angry libs out there now.

edited for spelling gaffe.

7. The exact phrasing is not to difficult to state
The fact that he wont do it tells me he will run. It seems, according to the pundits, is the Hillary factor.

8. IF Al Gore runs...do you think he will revert to the Al Gore
of the 2000 campaign (after all he is/was a DLCer) and listen to the Washington "Insiders" such as Donna Brazille who ran such a horrible campaign in 2000? Or will he be the Al Gore we've seen over the past few years, the one who can energize a crowd?

I hope if he does run, we get the more personable energetic Al Gore and that he listens to the netroots and the grass roots not the so called "experts" in DC. Send James Carville packing back to his Republican wife.

9. Not a chance in hell that would happen
He is not a DLCer anymore. He understands what happened. He will run as a populist.

10. He addressed that all the way back in 2002:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2002/06/29/gore-retreat.htm

Al Gore told top Democratic fund-raisers Saturday that the party's 2000 campaign had too many consultants and that if he runs for president again he will speak from the heart and "let it rip."

11. It's a good question...
His relaxed attitude owes much to the fact he's a private citizen pursuing his interests. Though I doubt he'd ever revert very much, being older and wiser and having 'been through it', but if he felt the pressure of candidacy and millions of people's hopes riding on him, he might tighten up a bit... His mental model for how someone professionally engaged in politics may still have some rules regarding politeness that's unwarranted (in our current political mêlée).

In any case, don't get me wrong--he'd be the elephant in the room as far as candidates went; the President who deserves to be President! His election would right a wrong as well as be the comeback story of the new century. If he brings his newly evident toughness to the office, he'd do more than all the other candidates put together in restoring our goverment to what it should be. Like Kennedy, he could even challenge us to save our environment (and futures)--creating jobs and technologies (that we can sell to the rest of the world to aid in their own efforts to curb emissions) in the process!

12. Gore was interviewed on UK television
last week (he was over here promoting his film) and the interviewer finally asked him point blank if he was going to run for President in 2008.

Gore said no. No dancing around the issue, just "no, I have no plans to run for President."

Make of that what you will. We all know a lot can happen in two years.

17. I think he's watching how...
the cards will deal out......particularly if Hilary runs.....which I hope doesn't happen....not because she wouldn't be great but she has too much that the repukes will attack and unfortunately, a woman....I don't think the time is right. Gore will run when he KNOWS that he can't lose.

19. Gore is so passionate about global warming
that he has no choice BUT to run.

Sure, the next 6 months he will run around with his movie, then he will
be compelled to take his battle to the next level.

He will soon discover, if he doesn’t already know, he is destined to become president.
