Hell, We Can't Even Agree On An Issue.
Are we pathetic?

Or is it that there are just so many issues to choose from?

We have to get this narrowed down a little.

1. I'll give it a go...
Stop the illegal war/send our troops home

Divert all warmonger monies to rebuilding our infrastructure, including health care and education

Feed the hungry and shelter the homeless

Make sure our elders are cared for

Prosecute the bastards who sullied our good name

Prosecute their cronies

8. Ahh... do you find that shockingly refreshing?
All we really have to do is focus on the opposite of what BushCo have done.

I think if we take care of these few points, many other worries will take care of themselves.

9. Add in media reform and I'm with you
Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and split up the media monopolies is high on my list.

12. I would hope they would jump on the bandwagon
And I hope the next administration doesn't feel the need to hold the dangley bits of the media in their tight grip. That alone would help. In fact, the release of that pressure might let the blood flow back into their brains.

But then I can be overly optimistic at times:) It's been all about the money for too many for too long.

18. There is no big money to be made in this bandwagon
Big media is owned by greedy corporations who will keep their focus on politicians who can be bought. They will not jump on any democratic bandwagon unless forced to do so.

Sorry to rain on your optimism parade, but I feel this is an important issue and without it our message cannot be heard.

19. Exactly my point
They want what sells. If enough people want to see stories about how this country is being rebuilt, they will come. If they continue to spew BushSpeak while the rest of us are cleaning up the mess, their viewership will take a nosedive.

21. They don't care what sells papers/shows
They care what the media's support for certain politics can benefit their entire portfolio. The big money is not in selling papers, the big money is what the media can get for them. If Democrats are busy helping the middle class/poor and the GOP is still currying favors with lobbyists, the papers will favor the GOP.

16. Big 3
1. Restore Federal Revenues (Reinstate Taxes--Retroactively with interest!)
2. Dismantle Corporate Media (Fairness Doctrine, Require Mass Media to act in Public Interest)
3. Immediately Implement Verifiable Election Processes (Verifiable Voting, Eliminate Disenfranchisement)

That will allow for us to regain the power due the people and retake Congress (and shortly thereafter the Presidency), which in turn will allow us to bring a reasonable end to the war and begin restoring our Democracy!

2. We cannot agree on an issue because we are Democrats.
Will Rogers said it best. He said that he did not belong to any organized polical party. He said that he was a Democrat.

6. Moveon.org polled it's membership asking for three big ideas
to promote. The winners were: Health care for everyone, Energy independence with clean fuels and Restoring Democracy.

I like it. Three ideas with short soundbyte names. Something we can sell.

10. It's not as bad as you might think... there's agreement on most...
... broad issues - it's only at the level of (relatively) fine detail that it all appears to go to hell. That's ok - that's just folks passionately advocating their favorite details.

For example - while lotsa folks disagree with various details of various things Clinton did while President, it's essentially unanimous here that Clinton's policies were, ON THE WHOLE, pretty good, and generaly had good outcomes - especially considering the political milieu he was in.

14. I gotta simple one....
People power over corporate power.

That sounds specific, but it covers almost everything, including the environment, workers rights and maintaining a middle clss, promoting fair competition for smller businesses, media diversification, etc.

If the Democrats were to grab that as an issue, IMO, that's uniofy a lot of dissention.

17. True. Corporate interests are the reason for most of our woes
including voter fraud, lapdog media, unafforable healthcare, etc. When Democrats talk about "security threats", they need to include the threat of corporatism to our Democracy, and the threats posed by climate change and our incredibly poor educational system (I guess the only way big corporations affect our schools is by funneling funds away from them and not paying their own taxes).

Would the party have the nerve to tear itself away from the master that feeds it?

20. Very good point
I think a lot of what's wrong with this country is that people are so scared to speak up. And it starts in the work place. People are afraid to stand up and speak, say what they think, dissent, because they're afraid of losing their jobs. All too often I hear "he's the boss, he can do what he wants, we just need to shut up and keep our heads down." And I think that spills right over into our democracy. "He's the president, he can do what he wants." And now the SCOTUS with their latest whistleblowing ruling - it all makes me sick.

There is WAY too much corporate power, and people are so worn down by it, they don't even realize they're losing their voices. It has to stop. We're losing far too much because of all the abuse and corruption.
