Critics Blast Al Gore's Documentary As 'Realistic'
NEW YORK— The Al Gore-produced global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth is being panned by critics nationwide who claim the 90-plus minute environmental film is "too disturbingly realistic and well-researched to enjoy." "I found it difficult to suspend my disbelief in man-made climate change for the first half-hour—and utterly impossible after that—which makes for a movie-going experience that's far more educational than it is enjoyable," said New York Post film critic Skip Hack. "Gore's film overwhelms viewers with staggering amounts of scientific information until nothing about global warming is left to the imagination, and that's just not good entertainment. Two stars." Some critics have called the film's claims that sea levels could rise 20 feet somewhat sensationalistic, although most agree that this is not enough to save the film from being unwatchably factual.

7. enjoy???
Is the disturbing, unvarnished, truthful truth supposed to be -enjoyable-?

It's as if everything published or broadcast has to be entertaining and marketable...
ratings and dollars, you know.

In the meantime, gw continues apace and humankind is in -real- and I mean really
realistic peril.

9. at first , I was reminded of the msm lambasting gore for being "too
intelligent, too well-spoken" in his "debates" with the chimperor (the word is in quotes because it is hard to have a debate where one person is so hopelessly outclassed and out of place) remember the comments about disliking him the way one disliked the eggheads when one was in high school? and here I always thought that one would really prefer that the person leading this country actually BE intelligent, thoughtful, well-read, well-versed in politics, international relations, human nature, psychology, history, etc. etc.

so it took a minute to realize that this was from the Onion--sadly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear people actually saying that about his documentary.

Maybe because I wouldn't have been surprised if this article had been true.

I love the Onion!

13. Lol. Almost got me!
If I didn't know it was the Onion, only the critic's name "Skip Hack" might have given me a clue.

16. #5 Here. Steve's a "Hack"...That's why we have global warming ...
Edited on Sat Jun-03-06 02:39 AM by autorank
...in which case, this review is priceless. Let review...

Mr. Hack: "I found it difficult to suspend my disbelief in man-made climate change for the first half-hour—and utterly impossible after that—which makes for a movie-going experience that's far more educational than it is enjoyable...and that's just not good entertainment."

and

Steve notes: "Some critics have called the film's claims that sea levels could rise 20 feet somewhat sensationalist,"

The agony, the pain, the  .. "that's just not good entertainment." Restrain me, I'm about to Kirk Out. Memo to Steve Hack: The film is intended to bring the reality of global climate change to the audience and PERSUADE THEM THAT IT'S REAL. Mission accomplished. Mr. Hack, sorry that you were not entertained but that's what Playland is for... Times Square, just a few blocks downtown from your offices, on 8th Ave. Save the world versus Playland. I'll take survival.

"20 feet somewhat sensationalist." Do you think those reviewers read the Times of London, a real "National Inquirer" type of sensationalist rag:

London 'under water by 2100' as Antarctica crumbles into the sea

By Mark Henderson, Science Correspondent March 24, 2006..

DOZENS of the world’s cities, including London and New York, could be flooded by the end of the century, according to research which suggests that global warming will increase sea levels more rapidly than was previously thought.

Mark Henderson, Science Correspondent, Times of London versus Steve Hack, Movie Flack, New York Times.

This is a great post. It shows why we are such a bunch of dunces...

I can't wait to see what the Washington Post says. Expect them to be worse (but that's just my home town pride showing through.
