Dean, DNC: Bush Must Stand Up To His Party

"Democrats have consistently fought for immigration reform that strengthens our borders, protects U.S. workers and their wages, reunites families and allows hard-working immigrants who pay taxes and obey the law the opportunity to earn the right to apply for the responsibilities of citizenship.

Right-wing Republicans are pushing the anti-immigrant and un-American elements in the immigration reform legislation going through Congress. So far, President Bush has stood on the sidelines while allowing extremists in his party to hijack the debate."

Bush must stand up to his party

"Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on President Bush's speech on immigration this morning to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce:

"Democrats have consistently fought for immigration reform that strengthens our borders, protects U.S. workers and their wages, reunites families and allows hard-working immigrants who pay taxes and obey the law the opportunity to earn the right to apply for the responsibilities of citizenship."

"President Bush must do more than offer sound bites and photo-ops to pass a comprehensive immigration bill. After five years of failing to address the problem, the President needs to stand up to the right-wing of his party and insist that the anti-immigrant and un-American elements included in the House bill are rejected from any final legislation voted on by Congress. If the President fails to do so, he only has himself, his Administration and the Republican-led Congress to blame for failing to enact tough and smart immigration reform, which is what the American people expect."

1. Divide and conquer, Dr. Dean?
Stupid is letting the extremists rule the debate because Stupid is an extremist.

Of course, he'd rather throw the border wide open, get the wages down to a buck a day, and bask in the glory of a job well done. He'll take the hate, though.

2. I think it's the other way around... true conservatives must stand up to
BushCo, which is not a conservative organization at all.
