US disturbed by reports of torture by Egypt police

WASHINGTON — The State Department said on Tuesday it is disturbed by reports that an Egyptian anti-government activist was tortured while in police custody last week.

Mohammed El Sharkawi, 24, claimed he was beaten and sexually assaulted at a Cairo police station after being arrested following a peaceful protest.

<snip>Egypt has been a prime destination for victims of renditions. The Egyptian prime minister noted in 2005 that the U.S. has transferred some 60-70 detainees to that country, and a former CIA agent with experience in the region believes that "hundreds" of detainees may have been sent by the U.S. to prisons in other Middle Eastern countries.

1. Why?
Didn't they ask Alberto "Its Not Illegal If The President Does It" Gonzales' permission first?

5. Funny how these headlines always say:
"U.S." is disturbed by, or "White House" is disturbed by, or "State Dept." is disturbed by...The dumbass in chief isn't really disturbed by anything, he's just disturbed.

11. The administration of George W. Bush employs torturers, has our
military assist them, lies about rendition flights, has "secret" detention centers in places like Egypt, tortures Egyptians and anyone else on someone's "terrorist" list then uses perception management coming out of Rice's State Department (which stopped practicing diplomacy years ago) to deflect our focus from other ongoing criminal events perpetrated by the criminals & traitors in BFEE.

Then we have our domestic torturers, sadists, racists and perverts hiding behind their badge or national security shield-now supported by various paramilitary groups of extremists on the borders.
