Hayden plans massive expansion of spying on Americans
It's CHB so you can take this with a grain of salt. I for one tend to think Thompson nails many more stories than we give him credit for here on DU.

New CIA director Hayden plans massive expansion of spying on Americans
By DOUG THOMPSON
May 31, 2006, 08:19

Now that he is officially sworn in as the new head of the Central Intelligence Agency, Gen. Michael Hayden plans to build a vast domestic spying network that will pry into the lives of most Americans around the clock.

President George W. Bush told Hayden to "take whatever steps necessary" to monitor Americans 24/7 by listening in on their phone calls, bugging their homes and offices, probing their private lives, snooping into their financial records and watching their travel habits.

Can I prove this in a court of law? No. Do I know it is happening? Yes, without a doubt. Enough sources within the CIA, FBI, NSA and Pentagon have come forward in recent days to warn about Hayden's plans for an expanded, consolidated spy network aimed at Americans, not terrorists, and violating numerous laws that prohibit such activities against citizens of this country.

"What Hayden plans to do is not only illegal, it is immoral," says a longtime CIA operative who may retire early rather than participate in what he sees as an illegal extension of the spy agency's activities.

2. Within hours of starting up a deal like that, somebody would talk.
Unless they staffed the whole thing with Marines, they would never get a away with it.

4. How long did the NSA thing run? Don't be shortsighted on their
determination to control EVERYTHING. they practically have already. Besides, he's been right in the past. Don't shoot the messenger.

6. It's not really clear that it ever ran.

The story came from a delusional ex-NSA guy. Nobody has yet provided the slightest trace of evidence that any of that stuff is operable/ or put into operation or exists at all. My guess is that by not confirming or denying any of it, a convenient hoax is perpetuated. Journalists are so easily wowed and baffled by techobabble that they will repeat whatever they are fed and it becomes the printed truth.

One need only look at what happened after a few bullshit implications and assertions were fed to some reporters and sunday morning talk shows about Saddam's weapons programs. Suddenly the world was on the brink of destruction.

In the mean time, while everybody is running around worried about this bogus crap, they are butchering the whole population of Iraq and surrendering the treasury to contractors.

7. Bogus?
Funny. That's the first time anyone ever tried to tell me it was a delusion. Interesting.

9. Is this so unbelievable?
After all, we're now aware of having our telephone calls "monitored". It is now known that we're being eavesdropped upon in our cars(that is if you have OnStar). Our cell phones are being used to track some of us, soon all of us. For years now our emails have been monitored by Echelon and Carnivore, along with our Web surfing. We are increasingly having our every movement recorded by cameras while we're in public. And it is apparent that there is a massive data mining operation going on for each and every single American citizen.

So is this scenario really all that far fetched? I don't think so. And the "sneak and peek" provisions of the Patriot Act will make it all legal for the CIA to enter our homes to place bugs and cameras to moniter us, all unbeknownst to the average person.

We're through the looking glass people, and these people in power have no compunction about exercising total control.
